Laser Eye Surgery

I’ve been wearing contact lenses for about 10 years now and I’m thinking about getting laser done but I’m way to scared especially as my prescription is quite high. Just wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with laser….is considering laser….or knows anyone who has had laser eye treatment done?

I’m hoping that they will invent something soon which has less possibility of side effects compared to laser treatment.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

My sister had very weak eyesight too.She had the laser surgery about 8 years back and has been fine since then.Ask around, maybe there's someone who has a different experience.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

I think if your near sighted and your prescription changes each year or so, your better off waiting until your about 24 years old. By then your eyes are pretty much set and you have less chances of side effects than. My own eye doctor got lasik done and he had no problems, you just have to make sure you go to an experienced dotor not some cheapo you see in the classified ads!

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

Hmm sparrow my prescription is very high too :bummer: Whats yours?
I think eventually lazer will be much better option, as a decent pair of glasses will cost me $300 and 6 month-supply of lenses runs abt $150.. :disgust:

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

The best results for lasik treatment are for people whose corrections are between -1.50 and -6.00 dioptres. Higher corrections usually require more than one sitting. The treatment has been in use in Europe for almost two decades and in the USA for about a decade with few problems known. In the early years there was after treatment required with steroids like Fluorometholone. Apparently these days the technique has advanced and the steroids are either minimal or no longer required.

Your Ophthalmologist should be the best person to guide you on this - before Lasik there are investigations like a corneal topography test and ultrasonography which would tell you how much improvement to your vision you could expect. If you feel that the results would not be worth it after the investigations, you could always refuse the treatment.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

..
..
:hoonh:
would it be ok to ask what is your prescription. it should be like
-1.5 or -3.90 etc Right or left eye. If you dont have it just guess it.
Also there are ways to reduce or improve vision. Yes i wore glasses for
last 20 years I started with -1.25 right eye and -1.0 left now its -1.5 right
and minus 1.25 left. at one time right eye came down to -1.0 i will send da
info to you somehow . Mine is still very stable. If you prescription is more
than -4.0 or -5.0 then you need to so something because chances are with
age you may go blind sooner than you think or loose your driving privileges?

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

My eyesight is -9 in both eyes but with contact lenses i have 20/20 vision. i know -9 is very high but it's not my fault is it? that's why i am looking in to laser. Even though i have never had problems with lenses or anything like that and my eye doc says i have very healthy eyes.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

i advice you to take VERY detailed advices from at least 3 GOOD surgeons!

-9 is a lot! and you may know that laser on such a correction has more sideffects risks than light correction.

laser is shaping your eyes, this means BURNING some part of it, very little to correct the natural lense within the eye...but the more correction is needed and the more burning/thining is involved...so depending on your eye shape, it may or not be possible to do it with LASIK techinique...

i had only -1.5 and -4 (right and left eyes).
and i have less good results on my left eye, the one that was weaker...

BUT there is an implant technique for heavier sight problems like yours, it is a little plastic ring inside the eye to help correct heavier eyesight, please ask a qualified surgeon.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

My sister just had laser surgery not even a month ago..she is just fine...and not very painful atl all

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

:bummer: depends on the person :sara: i suffered like it was hell, could not open my eyes for hour…and it was a rain of tears on my face :teary2:

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

Thanks for your advice i really appreciate it....by the way where did you have the laser treatment done....not in London by any chance?

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

It's okay i just had a look at the other thread which was very helpful......i see you had yours done in Paris...i'm glad you had a good experience. i'll let you know how my assessment goes...

thanx

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

Sparrow,

Sorry for the late reply. My father is a retired Ophthalmologist. Hence the information.

Best wishes.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

its good to wait for laser eye surgeries for next 5-10 years atleast....its still not 100% proof...but anyhow if you do get em...get em only if your above 30 years of age, cuz ur body is still developing upto mid 30's

g'luck

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

What keeps developing in the body till mid 30s?

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

obviously ur “eyes” can get better on their own also..depending on ur lifestyle etc.. thats what my family doctor told me to wait till i reach mid 30’s and then go for it

Really? How old are ya? I am 28..

Re: Laser Eye Surgery

a relative of ours had laser eye surgery, the after effects from the surgery only hinder one's eye sight for like 36 hours after that all is well.
