Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

we say tey, our Sindhi is very pure ;).. With an pure Sindhi accent :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes I know trey, but wait don’t we say 30 as thirihay?? :hmmm: so shouldn’t tray be correct ? :hmmm:

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

In our family, we say it Trey..

Like 32 = Bhatriha not Bhateeha :bummer:

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

Don't you have "tra" in the Sindhi alphabet or even as an alphasyllabary(Abugida) ? Most Indian languages have it .

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

Was ज़ the dot below Ja incorporated later with Urdu or Persian influence ? Are there any shuddh Hindi words where ज़ is used ? I am not sure if there are any Sanskrit words with ज़. May be people who speak only the language which does not have words which are similar are unable to pronounce it easily as grownups since they were not exposed to it as children ? :hmmm:

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

No because in sanskrit alphabets there is no ja with dot below hence there is no word that starts with z in saskrit …IMO…

In marathi i know some words where one can use z in its roman form…

those have problem in pronouncing zindagi also struggle in pronouncing zero a lot of time right?

in similar manner problem in pronunciation of words like pleasure

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

No there is no separate alphabet for ‘Tr’, though the sound exists. It is written as ‘Te/t’. Thats where from the the confusion start. Some people say Te and some Tray for 3 in Sindhi.

An interesting incident I remember. A Sindhi girl (my colleague in office) once told her friends that Sindhi got 52 alphabets. They asked / challenged her to write those 52 alphabets. She wrote around 48 letters and forgot 4 letters in confusion  She called me for help. I told her 3 missing letters. The last one was ‘jha’ like in the name of Parkash Jha’. When I told her that she said ‘you must be kidding, it can’t be Sindhi alphabet. Ye to urdu main bhi hai’. I said to her ‘aap dobara class one join karen’.

So there are already some alphabets in Sindhi which are made from the mixture of two letters in other languages, like ‘chh’ in Chhtari is mixture of ‘ch’ and ‘he’ letters of Urdu, but Sindhi got single alphabets for it with four dots :hayaa:

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

^ I always get confused between bay and beyh, yo know Sindhi bay with 4 dots?

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

Interesting. I want to learn a new script but am afraid to even look into arabic or arabic like script written left->Right because they always look rather mysterious , complicated and difficult to learn unlike hindi. I don’t suppose U can learn it on your own without a teacher, can you ?

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

yes learning a new script is quite difficult considering the reasons you mentioned

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

Yes I know bhey Bhit...... but why confused? In writing or in saying?

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

In writing,
I always write urdu wala bay,
Oh and also when I write أهي ,I forget to give 2 dots.

Re: LaRkana and Sindhi pronunciation

lol. can you believe that Urdu / English was not our subject till class 6. Thats why i don't make such mistakes in writing Sindhi (though its been long time that I wrote a single Sindhi sentence). I remember in school, I used to mistake in writing se (sawab) having three dots (i.e. one dot above two dots). I used to write (two dots above one dot) making it Te :D
