but some people are telling me it’s not worth the money. they said i could get a good one for like $300 instead. buttttttttt. macs are so easy to use and so convenient.
what is the difference between the 13-inch 2.4 and 2.8 GHz one
im not a technological person, so please. help me?
13 inch is screen size (which is small)
2.8 Ghz is processor speed
Only your budget can tell which system you want . If you like using MacOS then just look for that , but then you'll be looking for a price tag of $1k + . If you'll be ok with a windows OS based machine then you can get a decent one for around $600 + .
But I'll say go for a machine with at least 6 GB of RAM , processor at least 3.3 GHz, a SSD hard drive (120 GB) and screen size no less than 15 inch . This kinda machine will last you couple of years and performance will be good too .
GHz dont matter no more…! and an average user dont need more than 2GB of RAM but just to be on the safe side get 4GB which is more than enough but if you get 4 GB of Ram installed, make sure you install 64-bit OS to make full use of it. But hey when you install a 64-bit OS it eats up extra 20-30% of Ram lol sort of a catch 22

HP DM4 is a pretty decent model laptop. Comes with i5, 6GB Ram, 640GB Hard Drive (it's Sata, but you can upgrade to SSD-add at least $200 for a decent capacity SSD). 14" screen.
Anything below 14" screen size, and you probably will not have the dvd/optical drive built-in because it becomes too small to accomodate that.
Also Samsung Princeton. 11" i think. Comes in differnet configurations.
If you have the budget and you are comfortable with OSX, go ahead and buy the MacBook Pro, its a great piece of hardware, try to configure one with an SSD. You still can install and run windows on it.
If the budget is limited, say less than 800$, get anything (Dell/Sony/HP) with 2nd Generation Core i5 (the 3rd generation one are just coming to the market now, if you wait a week or two, you will have more choice with the 3rd generation Intel Core i Series - Ivy Bridge processors) + 4GB RAM + 500GB HDD and the screen size/color as you desire. The brand doesn't matter much as most of them, including the MacBook Pro are manufactured by Foxconn in china.
You could also buy used if you look. I got a good deal on alienware that way.
I don't know about dell, as aside from quality issues in their consumer line (even my mac has had couple of issues), the indian cushtomer service is terrible! I ended up getting a $200 discount right away when I called to cancel my dell order compared to the "indian special" which wasn't lower than what they had at the site. The off shore agents were pests as well as they would keep calling you even though you tell them that you are done with dell and moving to some other manufacturer.
There are ~$300-400 Acer machines, but you get what you pay for with the cheap plastic frames, hinges etc. You could go to the business line of laptops (lenovo, sony or even hp), but you have to tell us first what you would be doing with it? HP, for example, gives free blu-ray upgrades these days but are you just going to need it for writing papers and surfing? I, for example, have a preference for anti-glare screens and watch movies on my laptop, so a DVD drive is pretty standard for me that rules out Air and the new intel Mac Air alternatives.

Which computers have 3.3 Ghz processors on the market? I only know of laptops that could come with it, though even Mac Pro is 8 cores but not 3.3 Ghz per core. I wonder if you are talking about turbo boosting?

WHAT SHOULD I GETTT. HELLLUPP.
Question 1: What do u want to do with it?
Question 2: What is your budget?
I have a MacBook Air. I do a lot on it from basic web surfing to preparing documents and presentations, photo-editing, website design, etc. The best part is that it is light weight and has a long battery life so I could have it on my lap for many hours and not feel it. It is easy to carry around as well.
Macbook Air is lame aside from the form factor. Only 2 usb ports, no dvd drive, and not to mention no upgrade potential for a RAM so pay Apple to upgrade your ram once. Oh before I forget, there is no dedicated graphics card (forgiven...?) and there are issues with lines across the screen that have come up with many apple users. I would rather get the cheaper but well built intel ultrabooks that are out these days.
How many people actually use a DVD drive these days? I don't imagine the OP using more than 2 usb ports. I use it extensively and have used many other laptops in the past. I have to say that this is very smooth, predictable and perfect for someone who isn't looking for heavy processing type jobs [for lack of a better term].
She may not need to upgrade, but resale of Apple products is awesome if she decides this isn't for her.
Resale is awesome because you spend a ton on it to begin with. You ask who uses a dvd drive? I DO! :) But I can overlook that fact, but there are other issues. Frankly, I think she is on a windows machine and for that, you can get an ultrabook that is similar and far cheaper to an Air.
High speed internet is not up to par especially if you look at cost to bandwidth ratio i.e. if high speed is the same everywhere in the US.
