Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
yaar i installed that program..but when i look for it under windows resource kit tools, it does not give me an option for remapkey.exe
it only gives command shell, help, read me
what to do?
also when i was installing the program, and typed Z, it tried to cancel the installation..asked me if i wanted to cancel it
what would fix this keyboard??
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
Sheraz, re-download the program. I did it and it's a small .exe file that when you double click brings up key board GUI which easy to use and configure.
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
roman, i found that program..i did exactly that but now when i hit the space button, first forward slash comes and then space..forward slash just won't go away
also when i hit left arrow key, number 6 comes up
the person who sold me this laptop says he checked with someone and he said "it is a software conflict and can be fixed easily-by going to MS DOS then switching back to windows."
how would i do that? do you think if i reinstalled windows xp on it,,that might fix it?
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
this is pretty funny I have to say.
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
Sheraz, I'm not sure about the answer to your question. I can only tell you about my experience with using the remapkey.exe. Sorry.
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
is it even worth if i format this laptop and reinstall windows xp?
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
Can you use windows help menu?
If its not a big problem then perhaps formtting or reinstalling windows can be tried.
Backup all the important files first.
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
i formatted and reinstalled windows but it didnt fix the problem...its a weird problem...if i am typing numbers and write number 6, if i want to type 26, it becomes 62
i am sending it to pak..lets see if anyone can fix this problem..does anyone know if techs in pak can fix it easily even if its a hardware issue? this is toshiba sattelite laptop
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
Seems like an internal short, there are rows and columns going into interrupt channels together, and there are some issues invovled with the switch, the interconnection of the switch is used for the continuity of the circuit, and if its warped/lifted, you lose that connection and it will start going bonkers. The short on the PCB might even be caused by dust, use a blower to clean the PCB, even though thats not the way to get rid of a short due to dust.
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
there are two or three small screws on top which hold the keyboard. There are under the plastic strip where power buttons are which can come out by a small flat screwdriver and lifting it up from one side.
Take keyboard out and rub it with clean cloth inside where carbon connectors are...just a thought.
Could you not return it to the person who you bought from?
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
Jahil log…
Did you go into control panel and select keyboard? If all else fails, just choose standard 101/102 keyboard…
If everything fails, update the driver or change it…
If even that fails, then go into system, remove your keyboard, search for new hardware, tell it what hardware it is and that’s that…

^Nice talk.:)
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
unparh, its a hardware fault, **** ka zor lagga lo with the software, it wont work.
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
swap the keys :D
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
I think open the keyboard and swipe the coffee and/or tea from under the keys.
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
guys..the laptop has been shipped to pakistan..i really hope the techs can figure out this problem there...i paid $500 for this laptop on ebay..he said it is in perfect condition but "as is"..plus my cousin was leaving for pak yesterday and i had to buy this for someone in pak anyway
Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
Jahil log…
The keys are working…Just that they are switched…So how can it be a hardware fault? If it was, the keys would have stopped working…It’s just that the keyboard’s mapping might have been corrupted…

Re: Laptop Keyboard problem
Jahil gadhey, do you know what interrupt driven key matrix is and how it operates? Just because a key 'works' doesnt mean all the hardware is operating properly, gas station workers are not supposed to issue hardware advices..

Its a problem with the decoder, caused by a short in one of the pins, for sure.
