Charging Time (with laptop switched on…only turned on once in between two chk n then for the last 15min it was on)

72% 1am=2.5hrs
93% 1.45am
99% 2.00am
100% 2.04am
So it took 3.5hrs at rest. Can this be normal?

I dont know how much time they give you to return the product and get your money back. I would have done that. I know Sony is good brand and the specification you got your laptop loaded is also nice BUT its about personal satisfaction. If you are not satisfied then get it returned and select something else.

Nope not even HP.. it has a lot of mainboard problems.
I will grade my favorites like this:
IBM,
Sony,
Dell,
HP.
Although I was thinking to start a poll about brands

IBM is quite expensive … Dell cant beat HP trust me … please check online ranking … HP is wayyyyy beter thn dell …

IBM is expensive but they have quality.
I have checked it mate. =] Dell is more stable than HP as far my experience is and I am not talking about one machine but many different machines from both companies.

2 to 3 hours to charge while the laptop is powered on seems to be the average time with newer laptops it seems. My Dv6 with pretty much similar specs as your laptop used to take around about the same charge time. And from a bit of research I did, it seems the duration to charge is the same for most people with similar Laptops.
Also there is this general rule to cycle a battery on 1st time usage by charging and discharging it completely before starting to use the laptop after purchase. If you did not do that the slightly more charging time its taking could be due to dead Ions inside the battery awakening on every charge hence the longer charge its taking.
No harm of any sort but from now on try discharging the battery completely before again recharging and make sure you charge it to full before taking the charger off, you only need to do this 2 to 3 times and you may use the laptop as usual while you’re doing this. This will help cycle as well as calibrate the battery which in result will not only help to make full use of the Ions but also make the charge/discharge time better and accurate.
Here are a few examples that suggest 2 to 3 hours is normal for newer laptops while powered on.

Thanks bro! What you said does make sense. Before ending my laptop here, Dad actually had someone install all the programmes like Photoshop, Msn, etc on my laptop so i am not sure if they discharged the battery totally before charging it again. But when i got it, it was at a pretty low battery level so i discharged it totally n then fully charged it bk.
And it is taking 3.5hrs to fully charge when the laptop is turned off. Had it been 2-3 hrs while its turned on it cud make sense. And 100% battery runs about 2.5/3 hrs of normal laptop usage. Where as on the specs it said it shud run upto 4hrs of internet surfing. But even that i can ignore but i think charge time is lil too high to be ignored. Don’t u think?

I agree. 3.5 hours is quiet long for it to charge up, especially while the laptop is turned off. Still I would suggest cycling the battery a few more times before giving in to thoughts of replacing it, and if the charging duration does not improve I would personally be more inclined to replace the charger (If it is warranted that is) as the charger is the one responsible to charge the battery and hence the most definite culprit than the whole unit.
Battery usage time will improve gradually as the Ions inside awaken up, the very 1st charge cycling and a couple charges after that are very important for the battery to perform efficiently, which apparently in your case did not take place.
