Language barriers in relationships

I have noticed that Punjabi women are less likely to speak in Punjabi compared to the men… maybe it is the status issue or I’ve heard of people say that Punjabi sounds too harsh… I don’t know, it’s a languge and it sounds fine to me.

But I don’t think girls in the US or the West speak in English over Urdu/Punjabi because of status. Lots of people in the West are intrigued by other languges besides English, so more languages makes one special. It’s more of a self-conscious and self-confidence thing. We feel more self-conscious when speaking to others in Urdu/Punjabi because we don’t want to say something wrong, or speak Urdu in an American accent… we become paranoid of what the other Pakistani person fluent in Urdu will think.
