The famous Bhains Colony , Karachi …

Well the place begun to attract dairy farmers way back in 1958 and today has about 1,500 farms spread over 1,600 acres.

It is estimated that it has a cattle population of about 400,000, with a daily yield of about four million liters of milk and 7,200 tones of dung making it Asia's largest dairy farm

The first gobar gas fired power plant (25 MW) in Bhains Colony, Landhi, Karachi is on the cards. any update on it Karachiites] This will not only take care of a part of Bhains Colony dung - turning a negative feature into a positive one - but also yield 1,500 tons of natural fertilizer daily.

And for Gs readers

Karachi has many big and small dairy cattle colonies with an aggregate cattle population of over 0.8 million. Five of the big ones are listed below.

1) Bhains Colony, Landhi
2) Al-Momin Cattle Colony, Gadap
3) Nagori Cattle Colony, Super Highway
4) Surjani Cattle Colony
5) Bilal Cattle Colony, Korangi Industrial Area.

Bhains Colony is named in urdu and it appears to us a weird word. But I found many places in London named as such but they do not appear weird to us as they are in english. Like Earlsfield - Earls ka keht! Then why Lalu Khet or Bhains Colony considered a low profile name!

Laloo khatio , kahain yahan pathrao na shroo kar dena.

Some of my best friends are from Laloo khait. I spent many days and nights at their homes when I used to do group studies for preparation of exams.

There was a time when areas like Lalu khet , Nazimabad , P.I.B colony , Pak colony , Martin quarters , Aziz abad used to a decent middle class settlements…

Highly praised and recognized personalities from different Groups/ departments of life used to live there …

Sadly it aint the case any more …
