LBG, Yaar saray mullay aik say nahin hotay, kahin kahin eka duka good moulvis are there as well, People probably don't know much about good ones because they don't look for their own glory and stay away from politics and actually do what they are supposed to do i.e. pray, dawa and be an example to the youngsters.
Oh I agree, there are many decent mullahs who teach decency, but I am refering to this radical type who teach hate and violence. It has to be a conflict between the forces of good, representing freedom, democracy and liberty, against the black forces of repression, oppression and depression in the form of Islamists in our very capital.

While people in Paistan are worrying about lack of healthcare, poor education, destruction of democratic and judicial institutions, killings of those who protest or are potential witnesses, others are bothered about right of CD shops to sell erotica.

Missing the point Icon. We have issue with the errosion of civil liberties and the freedom of choice. We do not wish to see our motherland fall into Talebanisation, we could not watch as our brothers and sisters had the fun of live snatched from them by fanatics.
In this struffle, you are either part of the problem or part of the solution, and passive indifference is being part of the problem. We seek a Pakistan protected by the shield of indivudial liberty.

There may be some good mullahs, but they are far outnumbered and completley drowned out by the fanatic ones.
The moderate or so called "good mullahs" are guilty at the very least of allowing their loud mouthed brethren to destroy the image of Islam without so much as an argument.
The MMA mullahs for example, are in favor of giving polio vaccines to kids in the province, so obviously they have issues regarding the anti Polio propaganda spreading mullah Faullullah. Yet we havent heard so much as a wisper or a shake of the finger from the MMA mullahs, who would never confront open of their own, even when they know their in the wrong.

If there is something wrong with Pakistan, we need a secular or moderate govt to workd on the system, strengthen the institutions etc.
The religous fanatics would want us to destroy the current setup (a system thats based on British system, with a but of Islamic rhetoric thrown in for good measure, but proven a system none the less when followed properly), and put in a brand new system based on Sharia, which is neither proven, or well defined.
If Pakistan needs someone to save Pakistan and create a system that is just, we need for that system to come out of our current setup.
The current setup already contains, atleast on paper, laws that defend the right of the general populas, so all we need is an independant judiciary and a leader wih sound vision to follow those laws as stated in the constitution. We do not need an Islam brigade to come save us, if god forbid that were ever to happen, Pakistani democracy and society would never recover.

The influence of these fanatic Mullahs is higher in parts of the NWFP, Balochistan, and a few other places.. Mullahs really arent a threat I think in Punjab or Sindh, as Punjabi culture is such that the Mullah is more a point of ridicule then actual revrence. This is what I have noticed, I could be wrong.
In the article, the a hole Mullah says that most of the students are from the tribal areas, which makes sense.
Mullah fazallulah, the anti polio drive mullah is highly respected in his area, particularly amongst women it seems. I think the concept of giving Mullahs that much respect would be laughable in other parts of Pakistan.

Mullahs are worthy only of ridicule. I stopped going to the mosque at 13, I found them annoying. They have no redeeming qualities, they are usually crooks.

i'm just wondering ...majority of pakistani youth apposes the measures taken by LAl masjid fanatics ....so why these young peopl;e not doing any protest in pakistan....and i'm really disappointed from the government...

This what happens when the government is more interested in saving its own bacon instead of thinking about the country at large. It is a good diversion from the mess made by Mush and his cronies in Karachi and elsewhere. How convenient. Does anyone really think that Mush could not deal with these idiots if he wanted to. The fact is that he doesn't want to, because it suits him. Diversion at home and trying to tell his masters in States that they still need him because of extremism in Pakistan.

I smell a big upcoming turn around and division in Pakistani society based on religion. While the fact is that 80% of our population have no affiliation with any group, People are forced to show their affiliation openly now. Would the solution be on the lines of Turkey, where the official line is secularism? or is there going to be bloodshed on the streets to finally decide once for all what we really want? God help us because we definitely are heading for trouble.
