Re: Breaking News: Paramilitary Police clash with Lal Mosque idiots!
Fraudia: they have to do a cost benefit analysis -- at this piont, they are reaching a stage where they risk losing public support, and if some of the guys manage to escape or have to be let go later on, they may murder somebody else some otehr time (lives of govt ppl are also important, that are being constantly killed in nwfp)...
they have been able to put pressure on ghazi because of public support -- but if ghazi can sense that we are losing public support, he'll hold out for a day more, two days more, however long he thinks he needs to be in a better negotiating position..
cost/benefit --- the slope of the line is changing in a different direciton now -- gotta do someting now
who gives a damn what 'public' thinks. public is niether expert ate hostage negotiation, nor is it an expert at recue missions.
so teh focus is on what is right, and what minimizes hostage loss.
so they are tiring them out physically and mentally, the ppl in the compound dont know what all is going on and when, military increases pressure and backs off, increases pressure and backs off.. at some point in time there will be no backing off, and military will be dealing with demoralized, physically and mentally exhausted people who would not be able to put up a good fight.
the haddharams inside are not going to let the hostages live if they dont get their way, whether its today, or tomorrow or next week...
so either you accept their demands and show all other wanan be terrorisst out there that they can dick around, hold some ppl hostage and get a free passage to get out
or..you dont let them off... keep them under pressure and attack at the right time
public sentiment be damned, if waiting 2 days and tiring these guys means the hostage casualty goes down 20% I am more than willing to wait 2 days.
govt has nothing to lose except publis sentiment, but pleasing public is not always teh right thing.
