Yes. However Geo is continually repeating lies and false claims of the Maulanas. They are not highlighting their lies and not refuting them at all. There interviews of people that relatives of people inside without providing context and asking tough questions is also poor journalism. Every one claims to be innocent. They are not pointing out that many people inside are being held against their will and that there are continuous threats of suicides and ongoing firing from inside the mosque. They need to stress the fact that goverment has shown a lot of restraint and have been trying to reason with these guys for more than six months.

According to Aaj TV many of those inside are not even Pakistanis, but Uzbeks and Afghans.

I have access to both, and my limited Urdu means I miss a fair cut of the talk. Aaj is easier to understand, there presenters speak slower. My fave is Aag Tv, who is that chick who co-presents "fire station".

The govt has allowed this issue to fester quite deliberately, for a variety of reasons..the most important is the close links the “ghazis” have with the establishment.
What i take issue is a certain mentality of Pakistanis who simplify everything to the use of violence and death. I find that quite disgusting, while force is an option always it doesn’t mean one should be gleeful about using it (or incompetent in using it as Musharraf has been).
Even less casulaties and damage would have occurred if the gov had nipped this issue in the bud as it has an obligation too. Unfortunately Musharraf with the entire state apparatus is unravelling because of the contradictions he’s introduced in it’s working..his neither here nor there policy is falling apart and the consequences in the long term look bleak.

I think your right. There is no other reason to bring the Mullah Aziz on state television, with such a polite interview.
If he was considered a real criminal by the govt/agencies, he would be treated far more severely, if allowed to live at all.

Isn't this the situation where gop is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't? Nobody knows what would've happened had gop acted early. Can you say without a shadow of a doubt that had gop "nipped this issue in the bud" the outcome would've been better?

ISLAMABAD, July 4: Javed Khan, who has come to Islamabad from Mardan to take his sister — a student of Jamia Hafsa — was virtually weeping in front of the Lal Masjid after the seminary’s administration refused to let him meet his sister.
“I am here for the last three days, but I have not been able to meet my 15-year-old sister who had informed my family on telephone that the Jamia Hafsa administration was forcing her to fight the security forces,” Mr Khan said in a choked voice.
“Her mobile phone has been seized by the administration and now I do not know about her whereabouts.
I plead to the Jamia Hafsa management that my mother’s health is not good and I have to take my sister along with me so that she can meet her,” he maintained.
Mr Khan was standing in a line of many people whose children had been forcefully detained in the seminary.
Though hundreds of Jamia Hafsa students have surrendered after the government’s threat of launching a fullscale operation against Lal Masjid, a number of students still remain inside as they have not been given permission to leave the seminary.
The female students who belong to the far-flung areas of the NWFP are not able to travel to their respective localities on their own.
“I fear that if my sister escapes from the seminary, she would be lost which is why I am worried about her,” Mr Kha

Exactly. Geo is still showing interviews of people asking for negotiations. The goverment negotiated for six months and was blamed for drama and inaction. Doesn't matter what the govt does, people will find a way to crticise and come come up with a conspiracy theory.
