A large masjid that is built on legally obtained land, and built to code and being used for the purposes that it should be, is indeed a blessing for any area that it is in.
Masajid built on illegal land, or being used for purposes other than for what the permits were for is a problem.

for all the crap we hear about how religious Pakistan is, I encourage you to go to any neighbourhood, any day, and go see how many ppl turn up for fajr, or for other prayers. and then compare that to number of people who live in the area.

Yeah, thats what I keep hearing from people, that they all represent different schools of thought, and thus its all politics... Although I dont know what offering fajr has to do with how long you grow your beard, or whether you grow your beard, or whether your wife wears the full niqab or just headscarf or neither, and all the other non issues that seperate these schools.
And yeah, I have met very very few Muslims in Pak who are truly relgious and pious.. For most its lip service... At best they are just nominal muslims, at worst they are complete hypocrites. Although most would still defend Islamic principles even if they dont practice them themselves:)
One of the most annying things is that these mosques try to out do each other with the Azaan... We all want to hear azaan, and one that done properly is rather beautiful, but these competing Mosques often go at it simultaneuosly and completely out of harmony, and they really destroy the whole experience.
These mullas have gone wild on the streets of Islamabad. I don't have a clue how our government is bearing these idiots? They are trying to establish a government within a government and Pres. Gen. Musharraf is keeping a low voice.
It's only a matter of day or an instance that's going to abrupt the silence of the government and get these mullas straightened out. I mean, what kind of image is being presented of the country's capital city where thousands of people come for touristry. Not only that, there's a bunch of people who come from Pindi everyday of the week to work in I'bad. It's just utter chaos and the mullas better be taken care of or else we'll have the same fate as Afghanistan did.

There Fanatics should be dealt with froce now. Drama is prolonging a way too much. Every now and they they abduct govt and non-govt ppl and get their men freed from jail etc. On the other hand I am just wondering when QAZI-OH-I-LOVE-MARCHES-HUSSAIN-AHMED and other MMA leaders will do a protest march on this? They should condemn all these act of terrorism by Marching towards LAL-MASJID and hold a procession in front of LAL-MASJID as he has been doing all of last 5 years in front of SC, Parliament Building, Presidency (you can name any building)
