Lahori Accent?

Re: Lahori Accent?

Same here! Im back however so As salam wa alaikum wa rehamatullahi wa barakhatahu! :)

Re: Lahori Accent?

lahoris sialkotis, whats the diff.
and in karachi which btw has 30% of all of the country’s urban population, there is more diversity than any other city.

I agree with the stereotypical karachi pronounciation of these words.

as u can even see by these words that the karachi accent is a little whiny, and the lahor accent is a little jahilana.

Re: Lahori Accent?

yeah some karachi accents are irritating too.

btw, why aren't the Poonjabis jumping down mr. fraudia's throat? cmon punjabi ppl!

Re: Lahori Accent?

i am back
thanks cat woman i think punjabi and punjbai urdu is cute as well

Re: Lahori Accent?

they can if they so choose, I am just stating it as I see it, and its true goes back to the language ppl speak and how its spoken,e.g. german speakera have the german approach in any lingo, same for french and italian etc.

Re: Lahori Accent?

yes i agree mr fraudia that punjabi does influence the way i speak urdu.

Re: Lahori Accent?

i was researching on the topic of my thread and found this intersting post in another forum would like to share it as it emphasises on being paki and not lahori and being from karachi

'half my family is from karachi and half from Punjab. There is nothing wrong with people speaking Urdu in a Punjabi accent. That is how they speak. I m pretty sure most you people couldnt speak english in the accent it was originally created i.e. pure british accent so dont whine/complain. Regardless of what accent they speak it in, Urdu is the PAKISTANI language and can be spoken with any accent. '

Re: Lahori Accent?

I don't see an issue with different accents, it's the same thing all over the world, diff regions have diff delivery and accents. What I do find interesting is the vocabulary used by Lahoris: it's mostly comprises of moti moti galiyaan. teri maaN di **, teri phen di****** etc. I find it pretty amusing.

Re: Lahori Accent?

lolz yeah it might but i have never used those gaaliyan
i find them very discusting
if i am angry i mostly say peri bhoti
tera bera ghark
etc etc
if someone is angry i saw
ghussay di pari oyi bottle

Re: Lahori Accent?

I remember one famous verse from a couplet of Ibn-e-Insha

***".....deewanon ki si na baat karay tau aur karay deewana kiya"***

**
The same way an Urdu speaking person cannot speak Punjabi, Sindhi or Pashto etc in their respective accents, similarly one should never expect a Punjabi to speak Urdu or any other language in its proper accent. It would be better to encourage, rather redicule, Punjabis (and for that matter Pakistanis from all other areas) to speak Urdu. It would be quite disheartening to redicule them on account of the touch of their Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto or local dialect in their Urdu. By the way, Urdu itself has many accents, like Lakhnavi, Dehalvi, Dakkani, Meerathi, Pannipatvi, Aagravi, etc. It is natural for any language to have different accents and there is nothing wrong with it.

Re: Lahori Accent?

I am not ridiculing, jus stating an observation. although it is untrue that one can not getr id of an accent, One of my college pals a dude from jehlum, had a very australian accent in english, he grew up in both Punjab and Melbourne, and listrnign to him speak englis you would enver think that he would know punjabi, but he spoke punabi like a native.

The topic was not whether or not there should be accents or not. From wht i can see most Karachi born and raised urdu spekers do not speak it properly either, teh nasality, the speed and the run on approach kills it.

it was more about how diff accents sound.

btw qiba u came back after your visit and did not respnd to my niquiry I had sent to u in a PM? :(

Re: Lahori Accent?

hmm... thats strange.. im from lahore and one of my friend is from Rawalpindi... and i dont seem to find the accent difference..

Re: Lahori Accent?

:naraz:

u cant just limit these words to sialkoties or lahories.. basically anyone would say such words if they dont know how to actually pronounce those words..:naraz:

Re: Lahori Accent?

i agree frozen fire

Re: Lahori Accent?

I agree somewhat, sadly the wrong pronunciation is taught in schools and colleges, incorrect delivery by professors is strange also, I mean these are educated people, and if they were also taught the wrong stuff, and they further pass it along it just keeps going.

Re: Lahori Accent?

yeah true
even in dubai we have a fight on who is pronouncing it the right way and who is not
allele for example i pronounce it
a-le-le
but my friend says it like
al-lee-le
