For us it doesn’t really matter.. i have firends from karachi and lahore.. but I just feel more.. i dunno.. that I have somethin in common wit lahori ppl, coz we can talk about their neighborhood in lahore, shoppng places and that kinda stuff.. I knew a karachi guy once.. :halo: I don’t think my parents wud mind a guy from Karachi if he was good enough, but I dunno..
Karachi is your city too people. It provides you with the sea-port of the country and it provides you with the most tax income and the most business revenue of the country.
^ AQ.. come on, I am sure you can do better than this emotional blackmail. I bet if you think about it, Karachi has more things going for it than just its geography and money.
^Anwaar - ur one of the few karachi people I like.....have had a few bad experiences with some other ones....
Lahoris....i tend to like every lahori that i have so far met and know.
me being neither from karachi nor from Lahore, if I was to choose a city that I like, it would have to be Lahore....like they say "its the HEART of Pakistan"
ps. i heard crime rate in karachi is very high! thats why my uncle said its best if i dont go to visit it...although i will still go one day insha-allah.
I was born in Karachi and consider myself a Karchiite (even though parents are from NWFP). Karachi is the New York of Pakistan; everything happens there. I'm not going to bad mouth Lahore because its also part of my country. I just can't understand Punjabi for the life of me; everytime Abrar-ul-haq comes on tv I can't get what the hell is he singing about.
Those of us who understand punjabi still don’t understand abrar
I was in some desi area today, heard a few young grlz (14 or so) speaking in hardcore punjabi.. she said she was gnna beat hte grl up (joking of course) and it soooo sounded like my mom or some aunty lolz.. I just find it really weird when young ppl speak hardcore punjabi, they sound sooo old and auntyish..
Well I'm a Pathan, from peshawar but my dad and mom were both born in Karachi, Question Is which city has open it's heart for people. It's Definantly Karachi, It's has people from all different Ethnic backgrounds, Lahori's for some reason Don't like Pathan's Sindhi's nor Balochi's, I don't know whether it's a Political Clash, I personally don't care, If Lahore is famous for it's food then Karachi is also famous for Lights.
Well Faisal and some others have put it very nicely. Karachi could have become the Hongkong or Singapore with the fast pace it started out soon after the birth of Pakistan but unfortunately the ethnic and other fights, alarming crime rate hampered the advancement of that city, which is such a shame Karachi could have been the true fort of Pakistan.
No one is bad mouthing anyone (except a couple of ppl). People prefer their own language (mother tongue), culture they grew up in, their food etc, which is very natural. Majority people who have expressed opinions so far, are Punjabi, if I’m not mistaken.
I personally turned down an Urdu speaking rishta but that was because I felt I would be speaking a diff. language than my own i.e. Punjabi for the rest of my life, (maybe cuz it was an arranged one). Even though we speak Urdu to majority of the people we meet, I am too much of a Punjaban But if the two ppl love each other than the rest should not make it an issue (Larki-Larka Razi to kia karay ga Qazi )
Karachi and Lahore both are the creme of Pakistan when it comes to fashion and marketing, and together they put Islamabad down (my poor Islamabad )
Suraj hai Sarhad ki zameen
to Chaand Baluchistan hai,
Dharkan hai Punjab agar,
Dil apna Mehran hai
Mein bhi Pakistan hoon,
tu bhi Pakistan hai
One feels welcome where he/she can speak the laguage and can relate to the people. Lahoris are known in the whole of India-Pakistan for their hospitality and sincerity. In fact, they are too seedhay and khullay dil walay. If we start finding points of clashes than it can go the other way too. Karachiites have been very smart and sharp, also cuz majority were in the government jobs due to Karachi being the Capital. In fact, when the capital moved to Islamabad, so did majority of Karachiites and that’s why the main language spoken in Islamabad is Urdu and they used to look down upon Punjabi speaking as being peindoo. So if u start raising bad points, both sides can dig up plenty and can almost have a war.
The reason you feel welcomed in Karachi is because it’s ur parents’ place. I went to Karachi but did not get that feeling, though I enjoyed the different culture of Karachi. I went to Lahore for the first time when I was 15 and just by hearing the familiar language around, everyone going oye oye I felt at home and of course felt welcomed too. People spoke to me as if I was an insider. Or maybe cuz it was my parent’s place and we have all of our relatives there.
I went to Peshawar and Quetta and felt pretty intimidated, not seeing hardly any women around but when I met with different people, they were so hospitable, almost like possessive. Simple, but quite emotional crowd.
It was not bad The guy was good looking too but his job/career also played a major role, where Abbu wasn’t satisfied, so that gave me another excuse me too much punjaban baba!

That’s true Sara.
Abrar speaks real hard-core Punjabi and mentions old old cultural practices. I used to listen to this song (Assan teh jana Billo deh Kerr)) but dind’t know the meaning behind it, until Ammi told me
e.g. Hatti saray Tarar dee jithay diva Raat balay,
this is from old hindu culture where hindus used to be the shopkeepers mainly and being the real mean and greedy ones, they used to keep their shop door shutter half open with diva burning so that if a traveller comes by they cud sell him at a high price at that time of the night, so Abrar is saying that a lover hates the light coming out of that Hutti (shop) which makes it difficult for him to meet his girlfriend
Kutti maray faqeer dee jeri choun choun nit keray (now old faqeer, malang baba is sleeping in the street and his dog (kutti) is of course barking at anyone’s sight so that’s making it difficult for the two love-birds to meet even in the dark
My favorite line is: Punj-Sutt maran Guandana, the rehndiya noon taap charay, sunjiyan ho jann galliyanh teh wich mriza yaar phiray He’s referring to those aunties who always try to know neighbors’ daughters’ business more, that 5 or 7 of them shud die and rest shud get fever so that my “yaar” can come in my street
P.s. Sorry Nia, if I went off the topic a bit
and I was wondering if there are any lesbians around on the forum. What you wrote in Urdu translates to “if girls are willing to marry then the judge cant do anything cuz gay marriage is legal in most of the states these days” Tussi tan waddey wakhrey type ho bibiji
