Lahore vs. Karachi

This is not a fighting thread people!

why do i always find some sort of a tension between these two people. I have even seen aunties who would go in some gathering and sit next to their punjabi friend because they feel more comfortable.

Why? arent we Pakistani and should it really matter to us where is so and so is from and why do Punjabi’s call karachi wale bhaiyaa.

why some part of Pakistan still consider few Pakistanis mahajir.

My dad use to go nia puttar [beta in punjabi] as long as guy is pakistani suni and punjabi i have no problem.

Okay so what if i like a guy from karachi phir kia?

Thank Goodness abu ji has changed.

Its like there is still invisible wall between punjaab and sindh

why?

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

Nia regional tensions exist between people from all countries, Like in England People from one county sneer at people from other counties, a good example is essex, similarly, north Indians think that they are better then South Indians, The list is long. The best thing is to ignore it.

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

language!! my mum finds it hard to speak in theas urdu all the time...so if there is some aunti who can speak punjabi, no matter how weird, she's her friend.

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

I so don't get that crap
shi'a vs sunni
punjabi vs sindhi vs pathan
as if there are not enough problems in this world ppl have to keep on finding lame differences to pick more fights.

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

its not just a pakistani thing. its everywhere. come to canada and i'd show u how ppl react/treat those who belong to other provinces [especially those from western provinces].

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

where's unlce kaleem?

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

i don,t have issues with any pakistnis regardless of they are sindis, bluchis, pushtuns and punjabis like me, all pakistanis are my brothers and sisters, end of story.

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

Its just that "jahan dou bartan hon woh kharakhtay hain".. its true that karachiites and lahoris are different, and these differences become apparent when you are very close to someone... Personally, even though I'm from Lahore, I have had a lot of Karachiite friends and people tell me that I seem more of a Karachiite than a Lahori... its not different in a bad way, but different nevertheless..

Few examples, I have seen quite a few times, Karachiites tend to go to extremes (no offence again) it can be seen in Karachi's society as well. Girls who wear hijaab are just toooo hijaabi, others who don't wear barely enuff clothes, whatever happened to simple dopatta urhing larki..?

One of my Karachiite friend is getting married but he will only arrange baraat and walima, that too a very saada one. Why? because mehndi doesn't have any Islamic roots acc. to him? On the other hand, another friend's sis (also from khi) is getting married.. who's having all the desi wedding partys, weeklong dholki, mayoon etc, in addition to bridal showers..? And, both families are more or less equally affluent.

On the other hand, Karachiites are more open-minded, liberal.. they are more accepting of people and more willing to try out different ideas. Punjanis or Lahoris are more conservative with lots of ultay seedhay traditions which have to upheld etc. That's probably why I see more of Karachi business people being very successful, while Lahori guys are usually passing time with dada abbu's jageer ki dekhbhaal.. :)

So, I don't believe one is good or bad, but they are different. Regarding shadee etc, I think things have become much much better now... at least for the community of people that I belong to.

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

Karachi people are a bit more civilized than the people from Lahore, lahoris are quick to anger, loud and arrogant.Karachi people are not quite as bad as that.

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

in my experience it has been exactly the opposite…

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

Im in love with a lahori, so anything i say may be abit biased. however i have nothing against karachi people....they are nice too......
lahori people tend to be more vibrant, lively type, open minded people....

again i have nothing against karachi people and i have heard of many marriages between lahoris and karachis. I suppose i know more about Lahoris than Karachi people.....and from what i know about lahoris, they're really nice people.

im sure karachi people are the same too :)

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

**Nia jee have u ever been to karachi, well i have and i would never visit that place again. It is like entering a paindoo land (i know i might offend some of u people here, but its just my own opinion) People have really weird mentality well like Anil khan's mentality. They talk in a strange manner, their teeth are all red coz of paans. If u enter the markets, u will c peak of pans spits. The walls are even covered with those spits. I would never ever marry a guy from karachi (there is a reason they call um those name, i cant even stand them).

p.s: Most of them are even funny looking, their women are healthy/fat and the men are like a stick.

Punjabi people are full of life, well i dont need to explain anything about them (Its all out there)

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

I think its perfectly alright to have some pride in your place, be it your neighborhood, your city, your country, whatever. It just shows you have emotions and are a human being. People who are politically correct all the time, miss out on more fun things in life.

Lahore vs Karachi is a fairly interesting topic. Post 1947, Karachi developed into an amazing metropolitan city with a huge mix of people from various cultures. Lahore remained largely true to its original culture, dominated by Punjabis. People from Karachi, used to a fast paced life of a busy metropolitan, would consider Lahore as a sleepy village. And Lahoris were largely very happy that they live life to the fullest with a rich culture and glorious heritage. The pace of life in both cities is vastly different. Lately Lahore has grown to be a huge city in its own right, with enormous business and commerce and still some how differentiates itself from the bland culturelessness of some of the larger metropolitan cities.

I am sure people from Karachi love their city and think they can't live elsewhere, however, those from Lahore can never get the city out of their soul. It grows up on you. I met a sikh gentleman a few weeks ago, who had been to Lahore just once and that too for only one week. As soon as he found out I am from Lahore, he literally wanted to hug me and could not stop talking about how fabulous Lahore is/was and how he wished he could live there for the rest of his life. I was with a gora collegue of mine, and it was fun to translate for him the term jinne La'ore nayee vaikhiya, oo jamiyaa ee nayee. Go figure!

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

yeah, i wanna hear what he has to say about it :)

Re: Lahore vs. Karachi

We Lahoris are large-hearted, forgive others and are plain and simple. Despite being very hard-working, we tend to enjoy life and believe in “Dont worry, be happy” philosophy. But if anybody messes with us, we teach him a lesson or two. I am sorry to say this but Karachites are usually after one or two rupees, are chicken-hearted and cry over little things. I think they need to drink lassi cuz they look skinny, short and dark:cb:- When I was in Bahadurabad, Karachi, I had my own Punjabi group which looked distinct.. No offense but beyond Punjab/NWFP, Pakistan looks soo boring and dull.. No wonder no punjabi girl marries a guy from Karachi or Hyd… unless they are really in love
