Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

I would have to say, any infrastructural development for Pakistan is good for Pakistan and our economy. However, we must not over-look the fact that half of the population or more do not have jobs. Lack basic administrative facilities. Law and Order from police to justice system. The government should utilize educated youths in Pakistan. Have them involve in these projects in grass root levels. Hire engineering students and students from other related and respective fields without any sefarish or anything like that.

Insha'allah Pakistan will improve.

Orange Line Metro Train to be constructed on BOT basis

http://cache.pakistantoday.com.pk/construction-of-metro-bus.jpg

The 27-km-long Lahore Orange Line Metro Train would be constructed on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis while work on this mega project would be started by end of July 2015, official sources said on Monday.

A consortium of Chinese firms in collaboration with the Metro Bus Authority and the Punjab government will complete the project worth **Rs 165 billion.
**
This project would be executed on **BOT basis **and the Chinese firms would run it for a period of **25 years. **

The Chinese hired the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) for the construction of track and other related works. It is pertinent to mention here that it is also the largest project of mass transit in the country in which China is going to invest a huge amount on BOT basis.

The project is part of the metro network in the city and when completed, it will connect Raiwind, Multan Road, Mcleod Road, Lahore Junction Railway Station and the Grand Trunk Road.

It will be the first line of the Lahore Metro, which is country’s first mass rapid transit train system. It would also be financed and developed by the Chinese government.

The corridor would be capable of accommodating two trains running both up and down the track, ferrying up to 30,000 passengers per hour.

The project will run on a 27.1 kilometer track, of which 25.4 kilometers will be elevated.

The service will initially benefit around 250,000 passengers a day and this capacity will be increased to 500,000 passengers daily by 2025.

LAHORE: Work on Lahore Orange Line Metro Train is underway at a face pace, Shahid Saleem, the project director, said on Thursday.

“More than 275 piles have been completed at the northern end of the route near Dera Gujjran, on which pillars for the elevated track will be raised,” Saleem told The Express Tribune.

“The pillars will be 13 to 18 metres high. Specially designed u-shaped girders will be laid on them,” he said.

He said two diversions had been set up near Shalimar Garden and two near the University of Engineering and Technology.

He said once work on this section had completed, they would start work on the 1.75-kilometre underground section near Lakshmi Chowk.

The 27-kilometre track is estimated to cost** $1.65 billion.**

A consortium of Chinese firms will complete the project in collaboration with the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA).

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

Lets hope this project augurs in some better times for Pakistan. By the way, I love the first pic with Shabaz Sharif smiling in the corner. Honestly, is there anything they could possibly do in the country WITHOUT putting their face on it?

On a side note, there people who live around it are going to see a huge rise in their property value. From what I understand, the area around the metro bus in Pindi and Lahore are currently seeing massive real estate boom.

At some point, I would love to see a comprehensive study on the general improvements in the cities where mass transit has been built, as far as average savings, property values, cost of living etc.

Economic Corridor: FWO working on eastern, western routes: Major General Afzal

http://www.brecorder.com/images/br-black.gif

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has the potential to generate an estimated $100 billion transit revenue, besides easing out energy crisis as well as creating employment opportunities. This was stated by **Director General Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) Major General Mohammad Afzal **while speaking at a public talk on “The Role of FWO in National Infrastructure Development and Implementation of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor” organised by Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad (ISSI) on Tuesday.

Highlighting the geo-strategic and geo economic significance of Gwadar port and CPEC projects, he said that Gwadar is considered to be the gateway to south-west and central Asia, located at the Persian Gulf and is economically viable and shortest route for transiting. He said that the CPEC will reduce sea-land distance between Europe and western China to less than a half.

**He pointed out a recently concluded trial for transportation of containers from Beijing to Gwadar and Karachi through sea route and land route through Khunjerab. The transportation through land route takes almost half time, which translates into saving of over $10 billion per annum on the air route, he added.
**
He said that CPEC is a classic manifestation of convergence of geo-strategic and geo-economic interests of the two countries bonded in time-tested economic and diplomatic relations. Besides economic benefits, he added, it would also be a great strategic advantage in case of war in Asia.

He further said in socio-economic development, Pakistan will benefit from foreign direct investment from China, infrastructure development, easing energy crisis, becoming a regional trade hub by bringing huge transit revenues and employment opportunities. Easing out energy crisis through economic corridor will be instrumental in industrial and agriculture development, he said, adding the** most conservative estimate shows projective possible revenue of over $100 billion on account of transit revenue besides creating thousands of employment opportunities. **Afzal said that CPEC is going to be a game changer which will not only change the fate of people of Pakistan, but will benefit the whole region.

Referring to Indian conspiracies against the CPEC, he said the leadership of the country and the organisations are well aware of the conspiracies but there is a firm commitment to go ahead on the project. About the FWO projects on the CPEC, he said that the organisation is pioneer in implementation of the CPEC project, adding the FWO is currently working on maintaining the Karakoram Highway as well as working on the eastern and western routes of the economic corridor.

He said the FWO is committed to completing the assigned projects well before stipulated time lines.

**He said that FWO has already completed 556 kilometers of the 870 kilometer road network in Balochistan as part of western route of CPEC in less than one and a half year. He pointed out that Lahore-Islamabad motorways will be used initially until completion of the overall western route. **

**The FWO chief said that the progress of work is 1.5 kilometers per day, which is unprecedented in the field of road construction by international standards. Presently, he said that 12 units of FWO are deployed on the Balochistan projects and FWO is determined to timely complete the onerous but formidable task despite logistic concerns in the wake of remoteness of area and tough terrain conditions. **

He said that FWO has employed almost 60 percent of its resources to timely complete various sections along the western route including Gwadar-Turbat-Hoshab section of Gwadar-Ratodero Highway, widening and improvement of Hoshab-Nag-Bisma-Surab Highway and few sections of Road Kalat-Quetta-Chaman. He said that completion of these roads during next year will facilitate operationalization of Gwadar Deep Sea Port through enhancing its overall connectivity. Director General, ISSI, Ambassador Masood Khan, in his remarks highlighted the measures that have been undertaken for security of the economic corridor projects.

He said that CPEC project is for the benefit of the people of Pakistan and the people will protect it. He also stated that the sheer expanse and technological thresholds of FWO have led it to undertake multiple accomplishments and initiatives at the national level, and now with regard to developing the infrastructure necessary for the implementation of the CPEC.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

What a tragic shame nothing is being built in Karachi.
The CM of Sindh today was complaining the the Center hasnt released any funds for projects in Karachi.

Hope the PML N isnt playing politics by holding back said funds. But I wouldnt put it past them though.

Re: Lahore Metro Train : Orange Line

81 years inept CM and his cabinet full of corrupt vaderas always blame Punjab/Fed. Its their old habit, who have stopped them to initiate KCR , 5 proposed BRTs for Karachi (Red Line, Green Line and so on), Karachi Water Pipeline project to get rid of Tanker Mafia. After 18th Amendment, Federation comes to help if Province takes some initiative first but these corrupt looters are looting Sindh (urban & rural) in the name of bhuttos for past 45 years. They have more important things to do than development of Sindh like protecting dacoits in Kachas of Interior Sindh and filling private jails with more Hari !

Now** Saad Rafique** is determined to complete KCR with help of Pak Railways
