re: Lahore Jalsa: Imran Khan’s Moment!
this is just out of curiousity ! i want to know
does this large turn out reflect all of punjab or it is urban middle +upper class of punjab specially lahore ? how much it will convert in to vote ?
the turnout reflects some urban areas of Punjab. The reason why this meeting was significant because Lahore was considered to be Nawaz Sharif’s stronghold for decades which is not under threat.
how much does it reflect other provinces of pakistan , where does he stand in other provinces , has he got his party’s organisational infrastructure in every district of pakistan?
Not much from other provinces except from North Western province where he might get some support. Other provinces vote based on tribes and landlords of the area. It is almost impossible to even open up an office in some rural areas where you and your supporters would be physically harmed if you attempt to do so. Some of the people from interior Sindh, for example, wouldn’t even know Imran exists.
who are the provincial leaders ? as much as i know a single leader can not win election without a strong party organisation , has he built up a strong party organisation?
Yes, that is a big issue with Imran Khan. He doesn’t have many ‘prominent’ politicians supporting him. The issue is that almost all of them are corrupt and clean ones are unknown entities, politically.
i like this man very much , but as an indian i have some bias against him (only his taliban policy) , any way i know there are political compulsions too.
I don’t think there is much wrong in saying we should not go in blindly bombing every suspected village. And I don’t think it makes a lot of sense keeping up the operations and bombings and trying to negotiate peace at the same time.
I think we should appreciate the provincial government as well for not trying to take STRONG measures to sabotage the meeting. This kind of a meeting, even 10 times smaller, would be impossible without people getting physically harmed if PTI wanted to do a similar thing in Karachi and talk against MQM and PPP there. The beneficiary so far has been PPP which would gain some ground with sensible people divided into PML and PTI and blind voters going for PPP as usual.
