US ‘did not pay’ for Davis’s release in Pakistan, says Clinton**

CAIRO: The US government did not pay any compensation to the families of two Pakistanis killed by Raymond Davis, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Wednesday.

She said the US did not pay to win Davis’s release, but she didn’t dispute that the men’s families were compensated.

The amount and source of money paid to the families is not yet completely clear.

Asked who paid the families, she replied: “You will have to ask the families.”

Asked if the Pakistani government had paid compensation, the US secretary of state said: “you will have to ask the Pakistani government.”

Clinton, however, said the United States was “very grateful” for the family pardon that led to the release of Davis.

The White House also welcomed the release of Davis. White House spokesman Jay Carney said he has no information to confirm that more than $2 million in ”blood money” was paid to the families of the victims.

Asked about comments by lawyers for the victims’ families that they were paid by either the US government or the Pakistani government, Carney said: ”I don’t have any information that would corroborate that.”

Meanwhile, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry in a statement pledged to strengthen United States’ relationship with Pakistan .

“This was a very important and necessary step for both of our countries to be able to maintain our relationship and remain focused on progress on bedrock national interests,” said the senator, hours after the release of Davis.

“As I said last month in my visits to Lahore and Islamabad, we deeply regret the loss of life that led to this difficulty in our relationship and the demonstrations on Pakistan’s streets, but neither country could afford for this tragedy to derail our vital relationship.

“We look forward to working with Pakistan to strengthen our relationship and confront our common challenges,” added the senator.

Clinton Denies ‘Blood Money’ Helped Free CIA Contractor in Pakistan
Published March 16, 2011
| FoxNews.com

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton denies claims the U.S. paid over $2 million in “blood money” to free a CIA contractor who shot and killed two Pakistani men.
“The United States did not pay any compensation,” Clinton told reporters in Cairo, according to Reuters.
In what appeared to be carefully choreographed end to the diplomatic crisis, the U.S. Embassy said the Justice Department had opened an investigation into the killings on Jan. 27 by Raymond Allen Davis. It thanked the families for “their generosity” in pardoning Davis, but did not mention any money changing hands.
The killings and detention of Davis triggered a fresh wave of anti-American sentiment in Pakistan and were testing an alliance seen as key to defeating al-Qaida and ending the war in Afghanistan.
The tensions were especially sharp between the CIA and Pakistan’s powerful Inter Services Intelligence Agency, which says it did not know Davis was operating in the country. One ISI official said it had backed the “blood money” deal. There appeared to be little public backlash as night fell in Pakistan.

Re: Lahore Court acquits CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murders

^ by the way hakoomat k sath nahi ... judiciary, media & military bureaucracy k sath hath howa hai... American's show them a middle finger

Re: Lahore Court acquits CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murders

well more than the judiciary the punjab government has made the relatives sign the diyyat, and the health of that diyyat is also “mashkook”!

Re: Lahore Court acquits CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murders

yeah you are right but punjab government will have to explain all this as all burden will fall on them, and they will have to face the protesters now

Re: Lahore Court acquits CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murders

lolz :rotfl: … jo hona tha woh ho gaya.. now please my esteem fellow Pakistani’s lets die in chulo barh pani … kudos to Judiciary for using brain once, well this episode also shows judiciary is also not immune to Americaaaaaan pressure .. !

Re: Lahore Court acquits CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murders

well the judiciary gave the decision on basis of diyyat papers which were presented to them, but the question is under what circumstances were those papers signed...under pressure from the govt or in their free will.

i dont think the relatives will get anything, as if the americans havent paid then the pakistani government is already faqir :)

Re: Lahore Court acquits CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murders

Well what about his crime of carrying illegal firearms, the judge bent backwards to release Davis on that charge.

Re: Lahore Court acquits CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murders

Davis had to go and I think its better it happened this way and pakistan sustained some respect. Otherwise the last option would be using force. And Pakistanis are reminded about the truth that they should stop comparing or equalizing Pakistan with USA, a country which aids them by not only providing tons of money but also directs the governmental decisions.
And thats where it is said, "So who's the BOSS now??!!"

Re: Lahore Court acquits CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murders

So you think that Clinton is telling the truth? I think even you don't believe that.

Re: Lahore Court acquits CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murders

off course they secured his release by carrot & stick .. but just after few hours high ranking American official is denying any compensation is a slap on the face of Judiciary & Military of Pakistan. This statement shows Americans are disgust by just having a trial of their spy, even they know from the start he will eventually release when public pressure fades away ..
