Lahore acquits CIA contractor Raymond Davis of murders
A Pakistani court has acquitted a US CIA contractor of two counts of murder at a hearing held at a prison in Lahore, a government official has said.
Raymond Davis, 36, was alleged to have shot dead two men in the eastern city of Lahore in January following what he said was an attempted armed robbery.
The acquittal came when relatives of the dead men pardoned him in court.
They confirmed to the judge overseeing the case that they had received compensation - known as “blood money”.
Under Pakistani law, relatives of a murder victim can pardon the killer.
Reports say about 18 family members of the two dead men were in court on Wednesday and confirmed that they wanted Mr Davis to be freed and pardoned because they had received “blood money”.

They will just the blame the Federal Gov and the Fed will blame the Punjab Gov; there will be innumerable talk shows and then everything will be forgotten.

I don’t think much will happen on the streets. He was released by the consent of aggrieved parties according to sharia laws. JI and co should chill now. Politically PPP won and PML(N) government Punjab lost the battle of defaming the government at the center. Sooner or later “yeh to honahi tha”. PML(N) is also looking for winning elections in future. NS knows that he can not win by antagonizing Sam.

yeah but this issue will be a rallying point for the religious parties, the pressure/noose against the punjab government i believe will increase after this decision...especially if the aggrieved keep on harping that they were pressurized...punjab government has again had to bite the dust...they wanted to create problems for the national government and every day they themselves are falling into an abyss...

yes true but they have already antagonized uncle sam by arresting davis and not releasing him earlier and now the public by the way he has been released...but that was typical of the sharif brothers :)

Not necessarily. I'm sure O-Bam-Ya is well pleased with Sharif over how Davis was treated in jail (VIP style and all that). Internal dealing, you know...

Not surprised, it was bound to happen. But I hope the compensation money does get to them, and not to Rehman Malik's pockets.

Strategically speaking from this day forth I think Americans will have something very dangerous to deal with. The image of the US as a bullish and imperialist preadatory nation is already at it's highest in terms of publicity this is going to be one more reason fro sparks to fly.
It might not happen soon but this event will trigger a chain reaction and I can see where it's going to go... Revolutions dont always happen overnight but the fervour builds up and sometimes strikes when you least expect it to...
Pakistan is a country in the gutter and like all gutter folks it's gonna get dirty, very dirty and pray that the dirt is not washed with blood.

The Govt is smart, played their cards right and had the courts to set him free... It's obvious, they cannot take panga with the US, its suicidal for them. The least backlash that would have came was if a court set him free, and they did precisely that. Setting him free the way Rahman Malik wanted initially would have really agitated people.
It still weakens the credibility of our politicians, if they had any to begin with.

Maybe not now but it can flare up anytime and nothing is predictable in Paksitan.
As for unity not all Inqilaabs were United efforts so it does not matter if the numbers are great or small the fact is mark my words it's gona happen that you can be certain of.

Yes, PPP did win the hearts of the people, especially Fauzia Wahab and Rahman Malik with their brilliant statements.

well if the families keep on harping that they were pressurized by punjab police then the religious parties can use this in destabilizing punjab government...

Heres the issue, how were the fammilies forced to change thier stance?
Furthermore he can still be charged with defying international laws and killing citizens in cold blood, it was an outrange not just against Pakistani Law but the Geneva convention and heaven knows how many other international pieces of Legislation. This kangaroo court was all set up and the people will cry whitewash when they find out...
Even if nothing happens straight away people often forgive but they never forget and what about the countless lies surely this is not game over... not by a long shot. I wonder if the idiots will realise they have doomed themselves and thier country now.

Well as I said it might not happen straight away but it will happen and theres only so much you can take... the people will rise and it's my eternal belief in the guts and courage of Pakistans people not the damned politicians... and you know it is my privilidge to believe in such high hopes just as it's your privilidge to doubt them.
But doubters be damned this will be marked down in History and it wont be forgotten anytime soon... and Insha Allah it never will be forgotten so long as theres folk like me still left on this Earth.
Hope is all Pakistan has nowe but it's more than enough becuase every cornered being knows that even if it has no hope it has to fight to the end.
