Heres the issue, how were the fammilies forced to change thier stance?
Furthermore he can still be charged with defying international laws and killing citizens in cold blood, it was an outrange not just against Pakistani Law but the Geneva convention and heaven knows how many other international pieces of Legislation. This kangaroo court was all set up and the people will cry whitewash when they find out...
Even if nothing happens straight away people often forgive but they never forget and what about the countless lies surely this is not game over... not by a long shot. I wonder if the idiots will realise they have doomed themselves and thier country now.

As for whether the families were forced, firstly the court should have seen that theres no coercion. Also some family lawyers have been alleging coercion, but nobody who would receive the money has claimed that yet. Do you think they will accept the money?

It was inevitable. Among all the institutions judiciary had most good will so it used that to free davis. judiciary took one for the nation i guess or were made to sacrifice.
last week some analysts already said that an agreement has been reached with america on the mechanism of davis's release.
Was raymond present in the court though?

nothing much will happen. they have been taken in confidence as well. they will take a moral ground that since diyyat is paid, and it is perfactly islamic so no use of protest.
only few protests here and there.

Aaah your not fammiliar with Lahore high court, Pakistan's entire judicial system needs an overhaul mate and until then damn the courts. They never did thier job too well to start with... they persecute the weak, and let the strong go... what sort of Justice is that. What Justice has the Pakistani courts ever made fairly without the people? The courts are merely tools of the powerfull be they Army brass with thier chestfulls of Medals earned by our blood... be thay the ranting Mullahs who cower behind thier esteemed positions when asked questions of unity but are quick to spread discourse and are themselves corrupt even when in Allah's service.... and the Politicians are the worst beneficaries of these courts sure we convict a few here and there but how many slip the net of Justice?
Anyway as for wether the fammilies should accept blood money, moraly it's a no. But I am not one to speak for them and they are the ones who must settle in the country at the end of the day and repair thier shattered lives.... nobody seems to stand up for them with a pure heart so why should they be looked down upon...
I dont think the so called Diplomat/ CIA agent/ Mercnary was even at the hearing... so much for a court system.

Maybe they were "convinced". I mean, maybe they were told that Raymond would be set free whatever they did, so it's better to get some money.

man its easier for us to make sweeping statements; who knows how much pressure was applied on the family members...according to a news channel faheem's family is not in their house for the past two days...we all know how our police and security agencies are! more than the family i think the government has forced them, and now as it has become difficult for them to stay in pak they needed the american visas to get out otherwise they will be killed here

what have heard and read, blood money can only be offered and accepted after someone is convicted and ruling for capital punishment is handed over...

All Im saying is that Lahore High Court in particular has been particularly assertive against the government things like NRO etc. I thought we Pakistanies had more faith in the judiciary now for high profile things, agreed that for the low level stuff there is a lot of corruption. So why is one lawyer’s detention relevant? He isnt the one who would get blood money.
There is no doubt that the government played a role in convincing the families to accept the money. However if there was coercion involved, the correct authority to judge that is the court. It is simply a case of accepting a lawyers word over the court.

i dont know if there really is a difference, he was indicted/ charged with murder, that means trial in murder case was to START now, he was supposed to defend himself, only then court may have convicted him, which has not happened...
even if i'm wrong about it, and it doesn't make sense, i'm sure there was a case of possessing illegal weapons, it was registered long ago, and it was a separate case than the murder case, they just could not have let him go!!! this is bul$h¡t... this is bad... shameful act of both punjab govt and fed govt...
