ladies...wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

what are you suppose to say when asked if your fasting… and your not (due to womenly reasons)…???

primarily its not polite to ask muslim women if they are fasting today or not…but living in western culture, you tend to be asked this question by non-muslims and sometimes even muslim men.

what kind of reasonable answer can you give without lying or embarassing yourself???

Re: ladies...wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

muslim men shudn't be so stupid as to ask a woman if she's prayed or fasting or not.. simpl y coz of that..

uhm if nonmuslims asked me then i dunno.... i guess tell em the truth (if they're a woman) and try to dodge the questoin (if its' a guy) hehe

Re: ladies...wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

I was once asked by a pakistani man at work
how many days had I fasted after ramadan finished.

He kept on insisting I tell him. I was relieved after he left.

Re: ladies...wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

But many women can leave roza due to other reasons too....& besides those particular days should only last for 2-3 days....so there is very little chance if someone asks you & you are in periods...i don't see how it becomes improper...infact it may be courtious to ask!

Re: ladies…wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

No its not it’s nosy and i’ts stupid… and no it’s not 2 days, try 5-10 days

Re: ladies...wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

Why would you embarrass yourself by saying that you're menstruating, and that your religion allows you to take a break and relax during this time period?

Geez, menstruation is a GOOD thing. It means you're a healthy fertile female. Lovely stuff. Be proud of it, ladies.

Re: ladies…wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

^^lovely stuff??? :hehe:

Re: ladies…wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

The truth.

Y wud u be embarrassing urself…there’s no need to lie…if there’re asking then they don’t know…no harm in telling them y…and if in some instances u really don’t want to use the word “period” u can always say something like ur above phrase “due to womenly reasons” lolz, it’s a normal human thing…

Re: ladies...wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

its a good thing we get to relax for a few days.. buts its akward too when everyone at home is participating in the festivities ... and your not.

I think the best thing to do.. even though its not the "right" thing to do is just lie... its worse if when a guy asks you and you say no your not fasting and then they kinda smile and nod.. like they know why.... that is soooooooooooooo embarassing...!!!

its a normal womanly thing... but it IS embarassing when everyone finds out your "time of the month"

Re: ladies...wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

u have 3 options....

1.tell them
2.not tell them
3. try to make them forget what they asked by starting a discussion on something irrelevent(or in other words "avoid")

take ur pick

Re: ladies…wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

O’ i always thought it was 2-3 days, may be 4…10 days seems a lot…if someone has it for 8-10 days ..it must not be normal…they should see a doctor…serious.

Re: ladies…wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

Rightly said…

Re: ladies…wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

maybe 4?? it is more!..it can last upto 6 or 7 days max…i do agree with you on the 10 days thing…

Re: ladies…wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

please discuss number of days in Life 1/2 forum

Re: ladies...wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

I don't know why, but somehow in sehri the topic of the thread entered my head. I guess I was up a little too early, and still dreaming as I was walking to the kitchen.

Anyway,

Here's a response, if you're uncomfortable with the other person imagining you with blood flowing out of your sexual bodily oriface.

"Islam is pretty flexible even for the month of Ramadan, which is our holiest month, and in which one should try their best to be the best muslim they can be. If one is travelling, or is ill (temporary or prolonged disease, illness, condition), or is menstruating, or is pregnant, they are allowed not to fast. What they do to make up for it is to feed the poor, etc etc. So, if you see a person not fasting, they could have a legit reason for it".

And end it like that. The person doesn't know you are necessarily menstruating. You could be a diabetic or you could have a flight to be catching that afternoon or something or the other.

If they ask for your specific reason, they are then being point blank rude, and you have the right to say that you would rather not delve in it, but it is an Islamically allowable reason. Smile, and then walk away.

Re: ladies…wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

well.. it depends..

  1. U R not to fast for as long as U have a regular period… which includes the last few days of spotting, which the non-Muslim females dont count as a part of their period, so their periods last “3 days”.
  2. Butt out guys! this is girl talk… !! what do u know about how gross it is? imagine having a nose bleed from an odd place! with cramping!
    :topic:
  3. I think an appropriate answer is to change the topic.. or say I just didnt fast today… missed sehri (which is true.. u actually did miss it) … I know some guys who take a break in Ramadan.. (weirdos).. so they can eat with the goras on our conference days!

Re: ladies…wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

May be off topic, but I think ladies who have to skip fasting due to periods can’t make up for it by feeding to the poor, they have to fast for the same number of rozaas they skipped. Only those people are allowed to makeup by feeding to poor who are unable to fast due to health reasons.

Re: ladies...wht do you say when asked if your fasting?

Read this verse, read the whole Qur'an! Imam Durkey and Imam Nooruddin have pointed out that women are not restricted from any sacred duty or activity due to menses. This verse only advises as you see, to avoid intimate relation during those days. Period.

Bukhari tells us that women are deficient in wisdom and in religion because their witness is one half and they cannot pray, fast, do Hajj or touch the Book of Allah during the periods.

2:222. People ask you about menstruation. Say that it is an inconvenient distress for women; so approach your wives for the private relation only when they are clear past this period. This is the Ordnance of Allah.
