Let’s flip this thread on its head. So, if a man’s parents ask him to leave his wife and he does, what do you think of such parents and what do you think of such a man?and I actually know of parents who have said this to their sons

They have no right to ask their son to leave his wife. They are just irrational as the Woman asking her husband to cut off all ties with his parents.
