Lack of Epidural

How many of you have delivered normally without an epidural?

Apparently it is not an option and that scares the living daylights out of me

Re: Lack of Epidural

why is it not an option?

its always an option.

but honstly. you will be screaming for one anyways once u are nearing 5 cm dilation.. so even if its not an option.. thats one less choice you have to make. u will praise it soon enough :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Lack of Epidural

it didnt work for me with the first birth.. and second time around there was no time.

it HURT.

Re: Lack of Epidural

i dont know why some hospitals dont provide epidurals…
ask them if they give anesthesia?

I had normal delivery without epidural…my hospital had the facility, but i didnt took…well it is scary and kind of unbearable, uncomfortable but do-able:)
best of luck demi:flower1:

Re: Lack of Epidural

oh i miusnderstood.

maybe they just dont have good anesthesiologists cuz its a very very tricky area to numb…

like ak said… you will manage just fine.

but really… find out why they dont have the option available?

Re: Lack of Epidural

My mom was very suspicious of the epidural…so she refused…all four times :hayaa:

Re: Lack of Epidural

Is it not an option because of medical reasons or because your midwife has told you it isn’t? If the latter then they can’t stop you from having an epidural if you really want one although they’ll do their best to discourage it purely to save money.

However, even if you do have one it doesn’t mean that your birth will be pain free. Just remember that women have been giving birth for years without epidurals - you can do it

Also, have you considered a water birth?

Nurses refused to believe that i was in labour. My water broke so i was in general ward and was told dr will induce me in the afternoon. I had severe back pain and hubby was rubbing my back to reduce pain. I was scard as i couldnt bare pain and labour was yet to come. No pain killer were given. I was waiting for labour to start than dr came and checked me. I was8.5cm dilauted by than. So couldnt take epidural.
I was shifted to labour room and given gas. I went crazy onit. and my daughter was born 8 hours later by c section.

At how much cm dialated do you get an epidural n how long it effect lasts??

Re: Lack of Epidural

No epidural with the first one… total labor time was just about 3-3 1/2 hrs..went so fast didn’t even have time for one if I wanted it

Was supposed to have double csection with the twins…went from 4 cm to Baby 1 being born in 10 minutes, so again…no time for one…immediated got prepped for an emergency csection to get Baby 2 out…

And yea…natural labor hurts like a %$*%&%!!! But you know it…it’s over and then you have your baby in your arms

Re: Lack of Epidural

change your hospital deme! If they dont have epidural then they might also be lacking other things as well. Atleast you need to have an option of epidural. You take it or not, that is another thing!

Re: Lack of Epidural

I’d rather go without epidural then taking it from someone who is not skilled at it. So if your facility doesn’t offer it, either go with a facility that has experience giving epidural or go without it.

Re: Lack of Epidural

I am not sure how popular epidural is in Pakistan. If it is something new, it is quite possible not all hospitals offer it.

Re: Lack of Epidural

It is pretty common here. At least in Karachi, all mid level to high level hospitals have this facility.

Re: Lack of Epidural

In Islamabad only good 1 or 2 hospitals offer.

dem I would say check wth someone who has delivered in tht hospital to know about other conditions there.

Re: Lack of Epidural

ya if they dont offer it.. means they dont know how to use it.. dont push for it ok. change facility if u want

Re: Lack of Epidural

they say they are short on the people who will monitor me during the labor, though they have personnel who are highly skilled at it

Re: Lack of Epidural

Dem, anesthetic just comes inject you n leave, I had only one nurse sitting wth me n she was checking everything before the pushing time

Re: Lack of Epidural

I had my first in australia, the midwife that dealt with me was generally against it… It’s not a culture they encourage. Obviously childbirth hurts but it’s do-able. I’m due in 2 weeks with my second and InshaAllah itll be without any epidural as well.

Re: Lack of Epidural

hats off to you ladies that have done without…
