Neither Muawiya was right to introduce a bad tradition nor today’s shia are right to follow that tradition (whether they call it reaction or a pre-requisite to show their affection for ahl e bait). A bad tradition will remain bad irrespective of time and the person who practiced it.
For Muawiya’s shab o sh!tam, just go though Maududi saheb’s ‘Khilafat o Mamlukiyat’. For your information, this book is based on earlier historical books like Al-Bidaya wa’l-Nihaya - Tarikh ibn Kathir.
