koonday on 22nd Rajab

Anyone does it?

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

nope...simply because it has no basis in Islam...it's bid'a [innovation].

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

Yes we do it here and we used to do it back in Pak. It is done on 22nd rajab and its just giving Niaz/fatiha to Imam Jafar-al-Sadiq (AS). Many Ahl-Sunnah also do it and back in Pak they used to come to our house for Niaz. Yes, Wahhabis consider it bid'a like everything else

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

22 rajab is death day of amir muawia (r.a.). Some people claim that one sect started it to celebrate the death of their 'enemy'.

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

Strange that they don't have a festival on the day Yazid died.

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

I heard a shia zakir saying that muawia and his death does not worth a celebration. Any way it's been one of the tasty traditions of my childhood!

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

Celebration would be normal for those who earn sawab by cursing and abusing sahaba.

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

What about Muawiya cursing Ali from pulpit of mosque? Is it normal and acceptable, because even Maulana Maududi accepted that Muawiya started tradition of cursing Ali and his family. I want to know whether this (cursing) was done for earning sawab?

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

Too much sweet and oily stuff...hence not good in my book

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

Hanibal, so you don't like it only for being oily and sweet?! Come on, stop being so politically correct. ;)

I have never heard of its relation to Muawiya. To those who believe in this story, some reference from any book is necessary. And no, Facebook posts don't count!

The niaz on these tikiyas is related to Imam Jafar Sadiq. It is said that it was he who suggested it. But he did not make it obligatory.

I was searching online regarding it, and to my surprise, this niaz is not celebrated anywhere except India/Pak. Others don't seem to know of this Hadith from Imam Sadiq.

Whatever the case, the tradition is quite rich and the tikiya made at that time are really delicious ... especially when they are not too oily and sweet!

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

Well said.

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

You want to make one right using two wrong?
Khuda ka khauf kro the type of language shia use for sahaba cannot be expressed in family environment.
Have you ever seen a sunni cursing Ali (r.a.)?
I wonder what are arguing for.

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

Yes we had halwa poori

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

Two wrongs don't make a right. Abusing and cursing anyone with names just shows the character of the person doing that irrespective of his religion.
Thus Muawiya abusing and cursing Ali also shows HIS character.

Wahhabis CAN'T abuse Ali. But to show their animosity towards AhleBait, they eulogize the enemies of ahlebait line Yazid and Muawiya.
And about the Wahhabi love of the companions, it was in full display when those beasts desecrated the remains of prophet's companion, Hujr ibn Addi, in Syria recently.

Comming back to the topic, you made a claim about 22 rajab being the death anniversary of Muawiya. Where is the reference?

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

I wont judge companions and Allah will decide. According to some references Muawiya criticized Ali. Worst are those who abuse let alone cursing sahaba.
We have ahadith narrating Muwaiya praised Ali as well. but this is non-nonsensical to involve in such discussion because you will say that historians/narrators you believe are absolutely true, others might claim otherwise.

Grand Ayatollaah M.H.Najafi in his book Islaah al-Rusoom, pg. 283 - 285, talking about Konday. It does mention that you can celebrate death of you opponents in koonday section. So it tells the intention of people.

But you are so quick to judge everyone else. Where did God give you that right?

He does not mention Muawiyah's name anywhere. You need to show it is mentioned that Muawiyah died on 22 Rajab.

Re: koonday on 22nd Rajab

Ask them who judge sahaba. But I know you wont do that because you too belongs to them.
He mentions that you can celebrate death of opponent, its not sufficient for you. Even if his name was mentioned, it couldnt make any difference to you. Rest of the people may find it informative.
