Hi muzna, the poem that is often repeated by john in "The Elephant Man" is written by Joseph carey Merrick himself, i did research and found it, i'm 100% sure so the answer is Merrick.
Although most of us have the courage and the willpower to withstand “sneers and jeers” or even the “unspoken prejudice” that society showers upon us, there are times when we wish we could be just a little bit different.
If there was something about yourself that you could change to suit the world today, what would it be?
It’s Ms .Belle
Muzna I think a general problem we all have that needs to be tackled is CONFORMITY, its something we all need to think twice about especially in our culture. Sorry if this has nothing do with the question you asked.
well in that case the topic was lame because ppl who will not read thsi thread would think u are just trying to find out about an author. but good try, decent attempt to save..too bad it did not work.

Ok this what I mean, and I may be wrong on this, so bare with me, I just feel than in our culture one has to earn his or her spot and if her or she fails to justify their worthiness’ than its all over, there is no second chance. For instance many people in our culture chose to live extravagant lives i.e. the excessive amount of gold given to a bride, just because Bla’s bride had this much gold and Ta’s bride had less does not mean that they are poor and stingy it just means they are not conforming and thus they are labeled the outcasts and the talk of the town. The fact that if your cousins have “this” than you have to have “that” squared (doubled) to me is conformity. Why is that if we see another Pakistani person do something out of the ordinary (and it may very well be something that is not forbidden) its considered stupid, questioned or within a heartbeat a conspiracy is built. Above all many children are told to meet the standards of conformity rather than encouraging the child to go out on his or her own and create their own standards of achievement, I just believe over all our culture is too competitive in nature and thus we lack unity and patriotism and excel in envy, which all stems for our dire need to meet the conformity standards of our culture. I hope that makes sense.
