Ok jinhon ne khalil khan fakhta aka KKF ke signature ko akhaan khol ke dekha hai un ko pata hoga ke KKF ne us main ek challenge diya hai…signature aur challenge kuch youn hai

CHALLENGE: Can anyone correctly EXPLAIN this she’r by Ghalib?

Chalo saare zehen larao aur is sher ko sahi tarah se bayaan karo.

nahi ata te koi gal nahi per try zaroor marni hai…line nahi try marni hai. ok

(aur mods loag is thread ko idhar cafe main rehne dena plz kyon ke culture-liguistic section main koi shakal nahi dikhata shukriya)

I can try :
qufl-a-abjad is a combination lock. So once the right combination is entered the lock clicks and it gets separated from door.
Same thing happened to Ghalib , as soon as he and his beloved ( mashooq) clicked they got separated from each other.
Separation here does not carry the right connotation. Juda-e is more than mere separation here.

P.S: Even if I am on the right track , do not announce it yet , let others try too.

Is ka matlab hai ke baat bante bante bigar gai.. Qufl -e-Abjad is a lock (taala) jo correct words ya numbers to sahi se arrange karo to khulta hai.
ye Mirza Ghalib ka shair hai ke Mehboob ke saath judai ko Qufl-e-Abjad kaha ke baat bante bante bigar gai..

My attempt at translating the shair...

The simple Urdu meaning/translation of the shair is:

Us ka hamesha say qismat mein miltay hi, jud'aa hona likha tha

But the more complicated, imagery included meaning (in English) is:

You were fated in my life, but like with the certainty of a lock that opens with the right combination when entered, once you entered my life

It was written, as soon as we would be together, fate intended us to be parted.

Aur sahi jevaab daynay pay, inaam kya millayga?

well this is unfair since i have two phds in urdu and farsi and a post doc in dari poetry.

ghalib says here that you and me were coo until you picked my lock sista, now you go to jail.
