A friend of mine brought this great novel as a gift from the USA. The novel is set in the background of Afghan upheaval starting with Commie invasion. The writer Khaled Hosseini’s work is truly a gem. I highly recommend it for all those who are interested in the recent events in Afghanistan (and to a lesser but important degree in Pakistan).
Having read about Afghan past and present extensively, I see that the author did a pretty good job in getting the facts right, even when the work is a fiction.
Apartment from the Commie-led bloodshed and Talibanic madness, two aspects struck me the most.
First the deeply engrained hatred between Pushtoons and non-Pushtoons especially Hazaras. This is what leads to the killing of Hazaras even in Quetta. I understood why General Dostum shot thousands of Puhstoons. Or the deep anger of Tajik Masood at the Pushtoons.
The second aspect is the banning of Kite flying by Talibanic beardos. Off course we all have seen in recent days, Punjab government canceling the Basant kite flying under Mullahitc weirdos.
Ethnic hatred along with Mullahtic shenanigans is now being “exported” from Afghanistan to the many countries including Pakistan, Bharat, BDesh, and all the way to NY, and San Francisco USA.
I salute the brave soldiers of Frontier Core (FC), Pak army, and NATO who are standing guard against this menace coming from Afghanistan. At least for now Hazaras are safe in Pakistan. Who knows when the Pushtoons from Afghanistan destroy Pakistani history just as their handiwork against Hazara’s Bamyian Buddhas.
