peace to you brother…you’re right in part..that most muslims are convinced that islam is only truth…but I wasn’t talking about that..All I was saying is that it’s not possible for someone to convert from islam in a muslim
country without fear of being killed (by law as in iran or by a mob as in some other countries)..Yes I know of false cases of religious atrocities used to get asylum in west..I see some here in california..

to stand on a podium and shamelessly declare that they renounce Islam is tantamount to treason. To actively work against Muslims purely because they are Muslims is a democratic crime in not so many words in a state like Pakistan

So isn’t it a treason then for someone to convert a non-muslim to islam in front of 1000s crowds like Zakir Naik does..or the Imam in washington/NY mosque…Why do you make islam a one-way street? Why should one be ashamed of leaving islam? Just like you’re convinced it is the only truth that could be, someone could be convinced it might not be? Do you have any room for dissent?

I have already cited reference in UK..there are more which I think you’d already know..So I concur on this line that shamraz wrote in initial post…

This is a fob off … Muslims - most of us don’t convert out of Islam because we are convinced of its truth. And those who say it is because they fear x, y z are wasting their efforts … all you need to see is the volumes of people who leave Pakistan on false claims that their renunciation of Islam has led their life to be in danger only so they can get out of Pakistan to work in the West … When they come here they try to hide from the officials and go to the masajid and be even more religious … Islam is in our blood.

On the other side there are many Pakistanis who are non-adherent and although they will never claim to be atheists they will behave that way, disagree with the beliefs of the Islamic 'aqeedah and as a result be murtad … to stand on a podium and shamelessly declare that they renounce Islam is tantamount to treason. To actively work against Muslims purely because they are Muslims is a democratic crime in not so many words in a state like Pakistan … I still prefer my girlfriend theory
