I dont give a flying fk what indians do and whom they burn; if people in my country are getting oppressed and disenfranchised, I will bring this up. If indians and pak-haters take this opportunity to land a couple kicks below the belt, let them, as long as there is even at least one pakistani getting educated from this.

I didnt read the whole story but , i did get to the part where the mother in law threw out all the servants and made the girl do all the work. Its sad but alot of people are like that. This girl i know in pak , married a guy , her family had known the family for a while now , cuz they had been neighbours before. And the same thing happened to her. Her MIL would make her get up at 5 , make her make breakfast for everyone then clean up the house and so on . Till night basically , after which her sister and brother in law would proceed to bug her till 2 or 3 at night till she dropped dead. The mil even stopped the girl and her husband from getting their own home.They are separated now , but they have a kid together . Dont know how this ones gonna end up .

There should be legal action that a daughter-in-law can take against her in-laws for that sort of abuse.

The son should be strong enough to actually do something about it. Marrying someone and then not being able to enforce what u know to be right in ur family shows how mature you are. Or just hire a naukrani .. i know they aint expensive to get in pak. Less than what ull pay for a marraige and all those presents.

ur rite in that women are each others worst enemies..
just an example, i was watching this documentary last night on exploitation in the hip hop industry.. it was pretty sick stuff, like women will do anything to get a minute of TV time, and even tho the directors/artists are sick themselves, there’s plenty of attention whores willing to do anything so its pretty difficult for any woman fighting against that crap to make it big in the industry.. so yea women will degrade themselves and make it worse for each other..
but in cases like this one, the son needs to stand up for his wife.. Just because u love ur mother that doenst mean ur wife has to be miserable and vice versa..

Well, this is a death. Doesn't matter if the killer was male or female. What matters is how common this type of violence is. I found it particularly shocking that the victim was educated, probably came from a family background that values education, that her husband seems to have been a white-collared worker, and that the family has money. I mean, you would think they would know that killing your own family member is jaahil.

Smething iv'e noticed.. my mother didnt go past HS in education but when it comes to me, she's wiser and smarter and she's mroe relaxed with me (in reg. to marriage) than any educated career-woman i know.

See that's why a human needs a combination of deeni taalim and duniya-ki-taleem.
Education, I do believe helps one to become more civilized, but it needs to be paired with spiritual education.
Likewise, spiritual education alone turns you into a religious zealot, like the type seen running rampant in religion forum.

I thought sakhi works mainly for women of south asian origin living in the united states.
There are many NGO's that work for women's rights specificially in Pakistan. They also keep in mind the Islamic issues at hand that crop up in these sorts of problems. Ex. hudood ordinance. Problem is that most of them love to collect money, but they dont do much at the grassroots level. Even fighting as a lawyer can only take you so far. The problem is in the execution of government laws. If these people are rich, they could easily give money to the police to prevent from real action taking place.
I'd like to see what becomes of this case. :(
