There is nothing stupid about this article _Crescent and if that's what you think, then it's really a shame. This kind of violence against women is sharply increasing and if people continue ignoring it, it will continue to spread.
Yes, abuse against women happens all over the world. However, people have a right to discuss these things and should talk about it. It's bringing awareness to the masses of what's happening in our home country, Pakistan. Many of us wouldn't even know about it if not for such 'stupid' articles being posted on GS.
i thought this was a PAKISTANI forum....moreover, a LIFE1 forum to discuss Pakistani issues. Why are people having a problem when such issues are posted? we are discussing pakistan and its people because THIS is the PLACE to do it. and for the same reason we dont stress too much on other cities.
Actually, human right's groups in Pakistan are more active thanks to articles like this and people starting to speak out about what's happening to them. People are starting to take notice at what is happening in our communities - that is the first step in fighting oppression.
I don't see anybody here discussing their sex lives. Do you _Crescent? Please, don't bring up old threads. Let's talk about GS today. If that is what you think Life 1 is about, then you are sadly mistaken. Khair, feel free to open a thread on what *we *as foreign Pakistanis can do to help our community. It's an excellent topic and is certainly worthy of being discussed.
Wanting to limit discussions and talk only about things we can do is a bit naive. If this policy was implemented, pretty much every thread on GS including half the stuff being posted in other forums, including the Religion forum, would not be here.
How many people will be aware of everything else being posted on GS in a few weeks times?
What is stupid and irrelevant to you may actually be important to someone else. That basic premise should be respected. If people can't do that, well then perhaps they should think twice before posting here.

Domestic violence against women is on the rise in the country. According to a report of Lawyers for Human Rights and Legal Aid (LHRLA), over 100 women were burnt alive by their families, husbands or in-laws in the first seven months of 2005. Out of these 70 were married.

That is just sad to hear in these days and times.
I wish the parents of the girl acted earlier and gotten her a divorce if she was this miserable. How sad :(
Crescent that is a pretty immature attitude. Sit in any training class for handling problems like these and the one thing you hear again and again is AWARENESS.
There currently is no publication in the States as far as I know that is READ WIDELY, and focuses on Pakistani issues. Most Pakistanis abroad rely on the internet to get news on what is going on in Pakistan. This is a specific story about a specific girl, so chances are the television news hasn’t covered it. Not everyone has Pakistani television either, especially maulvis who think its haraam And I don’t see you don’t anything to start up some American-based Pakistani news service that can raise awareness on the topic, or a human rights group.
If you think raising awareness on these issues is a waste of time, then you need not click on this thread.
Yes Keep raising awareness. and Do less. The maulvis I know would never condemn it as haraam, so also check up on the types of “maulvis” u’re visiting.
The less u DO something about it, there WILL be more and more articles for you to post on gs
Crescent, the fact that you assume I am not doing anything about anything, shows ignorance on your part. You have zero clue as to who people visiting this site are, and what they do with their lives. Maybe I am working on it, or maybe I'm working on a related problem.
Don't make an arse of yourself by assuming things.
And yes, your maulvis would NEVER condemn incidents like this as haraam, because they think the &^%&*^ deserves to have been killed.
Good riddance to those girls who try to get themselves out of abusive marriages, right?
hey PCG, how about doing all of this dog and phony (done intentionally) for the woman who got raped and guy got off (both times) because he claimed he was sleepwalking...Show a backbone and raise a hue and cry over that. Dont go after folks who are trying to help.
Exactly my point.....It just so happens that this incidence took place across the pond (atlantic) in a western country called UK...Is it a wonder that you have not heard/read about it...no, because you have tunnel vision....your target is a maulvi.....not the real cause of the problem
Kaleem, if you provide me a link to the problem or describe it in further detail, I'd love to comment on it. Why are you assuming I know about every rape that takes place in the world? Why do you think I should know about every rape that takes place in the world?
And why do you assume that my posting a topic on honor killing has anything to do rape in the first place? And why do you think that by me posting about a crime in our own Pakistani backyard, I'm condoning all the crimes that happen in the western world? Isn't this a Pakistani forum?
PCG, its not about honor killing or rape, its about mistreatment/abuse of women in general. Dont narrow it to honor killing, that is not the only way women are killed or abused. Go see the General Section for the thread that talks about this
Sara, I never said that you should not talk about the problems in our country…its not always “maulvi’s” fault and yes it bothers me that I dont hear a peep from you guys regarding crimes committed against women elsewhere.
Kaleem when anyone brings up something about Pakistan responses like yours and Crescent's keep popping up. No we shouldn't ignore problems elsewhere, but problems in Pakistan take precedence because that's where we're from, that's where our families are. I can understand if you got annoyed and gave this type of response to non-Muslims/non-Pakis pointing out these problems but don't resort to comparisons like this..
guys u can always donate to 4anaa.org or join it. crescent/kaleem this organization is not only concerned with violence against desi women but also non-desi women....u can always write articles for them, raise funds, or participate in the events they hold.
