Kidnapped soldiers may be freed today

All politics aside, this is indeed great news for the soldiers and their families. Hopefully the government will come to an understanding with these extremists where Pakistani Soldiers, Civilians are not targeted.

Besides these militants should be focusing on the US/NATO occupied Afghanistan.

Kidnapped soldiers may be freed today

By Alamgir Bhittani
TANK, Nov 3: Armed forces personnel held hostage by militants in South Waziristan since Aug 30 are likely to be released on Sunday amid reports of a deal between the government and militants.

Well-placed sources told Dawn that the government would free 25 militants.

Eight officers were among the hostages. Militants have already released 31 soldiers while three were killed.

Former MNA Maulvi Mirajuddin described the talks held with Baitullah Mehsud’s men as successful and said the release of all hostages was expected by Sunday.

The sources said that Maulvi Nek Zaman and Maulana Assamuddin held talks with the militants on Saturday to finalise the deal.

Political authorities will convene a jirga of the Mehsud tribe in Saam area on Sunday morning. Sources said the government had agreed to hand over 25 militants to the jirga, while Baitullah Mehsud would release all the hostages.

The sources said that seven suspects arrested on charges of organising suicide bombings had been taken from a prison in Dera Ismail Khan on Friday to some other place, while 18 other suspects were shifted from Islamabad.

A senior official told Dawn in Peshawar that under the deal, the Sararogha peace agreement between the government and militants would be implemented, adding that Baitullah had assured his full support for peace efforts in the region.

“The government will get the soldiers released on Sunday and some of their (militants) people will also be released,” the official said.

The sources also said that Baitullah Mehsud had given an assurance that all foreigners would be expelled from the area and the process would be completed before Eid.

Re: Kidnapped soldiers may be freed today

basically as soon as they saw emergency being imposed they **** their pants and they decided to free the soldiers.

Re: Kidnapped soldiers may be freed today

Yup exactly!

People like the ex-CJ Iftikhar was giving these terrorists hope, and now with Emergency these people are scared to bits that they will get the full force of Pak military power.

Re: Kidnapped soldiers may be freed today

Why are militants being let go? If they were behind suicide attacks, they need to be punished. This is the crap I don't like. They're going to continue engaging in suicide bombings. These guys need a death penalty. No one should be negotiating with do takay kay fazool crazy villagers who want to take over the country.

Re: Kidnapped soldiers may be freed today

Nice set up. Govt declares emergency allegedly because Judges were releasing terrorists. But first step after emergency is to release 25 beheaders and terrorists in order to free 200 coward soldiers.

Musharraf ka kiya kamaal hai. Mashallah. Mashallah.

Re: Kidnapped soldiers may be freed today

We should take it as friendly gesture from militants. Rather then thinking our selves as machos.

Militants are known to have no fear of death (just like pak army)

Re: Kidnapped soldiers may be freed today

they could have made the friendl gesture before too. not only did they want other militants released theri condition was military moving completely out of the tribal areas. looks like that is not going to happen, they decided to get what they could.

indeed militants have no fear of death, that is why their supreme leaders mullah umar and osama are hiding like cockroaches

Re: Kidnapped soldiers may be freed today

Yep Pakistani military is staying in the area despite the demands of the militants, who had kidnapped these soldiers.

Re: Kidnapped soldiers may be freed today

sorry, the pants or "****" argument doesn't hold any value, our army "negotiated" with these elements to get our troops, read:
