kick or kiss?

Why is it ok for kids, especially boys, to be watching WWF and tanks firing, bombs exploding but the hero kisses his trophy heroine, not even a French one, they need to cover their eyes?

I am not saying to allow them to watching kissing (or worse), I am saying they shouldn’t be allowed to watch violence.

Oh and I think kids are pretty resilient, just like watching Rambo will not make them mobsters, watching some romance will not make them into Romeos.

And I am not saying we are biased against sexuality in media (print or electronic), I am saying we are very pro-violence. I know kids who at the age of 3-5 are not only exposed to jokes like WWF or highly biased military drama with good guys and bad guys & things blowing up and glorification of war but they are encouraged to watch it. I can only assume it is in an effort to make them macho.

Re: kick or kiss?

I've wondered this myself.

Re: kick or kiss?

Its easy to mimic/duplicate a kiss than to duplicate bombing or violence. You will never find some preteens trying to explode a bomb in their school back yard, but teachers often caught kids kissing each other.

Re: kick or kiss?

^hehe.

you know that kick is not real but kiss is.

Re: kick or kiss?

how would I know that.

Re: kick or kiss?

It is NOT ok.

Kids should be kept away from violence and sexuality both.

secondly, fighting can not be always categorized as violence but sometimes its also in self-defense. I have yet to come across self-defense-kissing.

Re: kick or kiss?

But kicking, punching or beating is very much possible and teachers have known to catch kids doing that.

Re: kick or kiss?

Thats just a spin on it. Just like someone can say kissing between acting as a husband & wife doesn't mean anything.

Re: kick or kiss?

I don't understand this either, when we were younger we were allowed the watch films with really graphic violence whenever we wanted but even the slightest kiss and our parents would tell us to cover our eyes.
I know I will probably do the same with my own children.

Re: kick or kiss?

same reason why parents fight in front of their kids but usually do not kiss in front of their kids.

Re: kick or kiss?

oh yes thats what our parents did n im also gulity of doing the same ..............

Re: kick or kiss?

it just the way we were raised up .. love is still very taboo in our culture.
