Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

It was a very nice movie.. Must Watch!! I didn't agree fully with the debate for music and Islamd but for islam n beard, it was an eye opener!

Thanks a lot ASN.. it was complete with a nice print!!

PCG.. We dun have any desi grocery store in my area so that's out of question and I didn't want to order a movie online without even knowing what was in it.. I will definitely buy the DVD to show it to the rest of the family.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

Who knows. It might be available on netflix as a foreign film.

I understand people might not have access and want to see it, but there are other people clicking on the links just to save some paisa. Which does a disservice to the financial saccrifice made for the movie. The guy had to take out full loans from a bank to make the movie. He's going to have to pay back interest and pay the bills before any profit is made.

Anyone have the updated figures of how much the movie is making? Have they recovered their investment?

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

You cannot buy it online yet, at least for some months, and specially not the original dvd9. I have the film on bluray (its pure HD), and i converted it to hd-xvid, and thereafter wmv for putting it up online.

And there is no harm watching it, jinho nay khareedni hai wo phir bi khareed laingay. Aap bi dekho , jaisa kay aap nay ajtak internet say kabhi tottay download nahi kiye.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

Defying the Fatwa
Amid cleric-issued fatwas and tight security, a controversial new Pakistani film is breaking box-office records.
By Fasih Ahmed
Newsweek
Updated: 1:19 p.m. ET Aug. 16, 2007
Aug. 16, 2007 - Fatwas and Islamist fury have not deterred Pakistani audiences from queuing up in record numbers for “Khuda Kay Liye” (“In the Name of God”), a slickly packaged three-hour-long polemic that is riling the mullahs and has become the Pakistani film industry’s biggest blockbuster, counting even Pakistan’s president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, among its fans.
A musical, “In the Name of God” opened in Karachi and Lahore on July 20, amid tight security. Weeks earlier, the radical cleric and Red Mosque leader Abdul Rashid Ghazi had issued a fatwa against the film and its makers. And though Ghazi was one of more than 50 killed in the mosque assault in early July, copycat clerics continue to make the filmmakers and cinema-owners nervous. Fearing the worst, the film’s writer and director, Shoaib Mansoor, has taken an extended vacation with his family outside Pakistan. And cinemas like Lahore’s DHA—located in a tony military-run neighborhood—are secured by armed sentinels, with ticketholders having to pass through metal detectors.
The film itself is heavy on message and touches on a number of taboo topics: marital rape, forced marriage and jihad, tapping into Pakistan’s anti-mullah mood as well as the customary popular disenchantment with the United States. Its plot centers on two brothers, one who goes from jeans-wearing musician to jihad-fighting fanatic; the other, arrested in Chicago after 9/11, is tortured into paralysis by U.S. interrogators.
Despite the controversy, “In the Name of God” has created such a buzz that the injunctions against it are largely being ignored; it’s selling out movie houses across the country, and it’s being credited with the revival of Lollywood, as Pakistan’s film industry is called. Playing on 11 screens in 10 cities (including cinemas either run by the military or situated in Army cantonments), it has prompted debate on Islam on talk shows and op-ed pages and is breaking box-office records:** it took in $180,000 in its opening weekend and grossed $500,000 in its first three weeks—good cues, considering the film was Lollywood’s most expensive production ever, at $3.5 million.** It’s slated for release in the United States, Britain and India in the coming months. “It’s heroic for the population to want to see this film,” says Mir Ibrahim Rehman, who heads the GEO TV Network, the Pakistani media conglomerate that produced the film. “We didn’t want to make a popcorn film. We wanted this film to prompt a dialogue and discussion.” If its popularity is any indication, they’ve got an impressive start.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

Code Red, you're right -- Noor is a genius. I dont know WHHHHY he chooses to make Punjabi trash when he made gems like Jeeva and Sargam in the mid 90s, both of which I watched AND loved!

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

i added more mirror links above, please check them.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

Its grossed 500,000 dollars...when it took 3.5 million dollars to make.

Yep...I doubt he's going to make a profit on this.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

They're definitely overstating the production budget or possibly its some error. The film cost Mansoor max of 4 crore which is less than a million bucks. According to most estimates by media insiders in the industry, it has already recoeverd its budget and the collections now from the theatres and subsequent revenues from the television premiere and DVD sales [which will amount to millions of bucks] GEO is definitely going to make a huge profit on this film.

Re: Khuda Ke Liye (threads merged)

The 3.5 million budget sounds ridiculous as Laaj, a film which was also shot in the tribal areas, which had a foreign cast from UK [that included some more experienced actors than the ones used for KKL] cost the makers 28 million rupees [or 2.8 crore]. That film was just as technically sound as KKL was, the prints having been processed at Cinecolor with DTS and all that. I would believe that Mansoor spent max 1.5 crores on the UK/US segement of the film, so Rs 40 million or 4 crore seems to a reasonable estimate. Keep in mind that other than Shaan, t he rest of the main leads are newcomers, and they come cheap.
