What’s the Arab Awakening about? Replacing corrupt dictatorship with what? Representative politics. Are people protesting the lack of Shariah rule, or are they calling for freedom of the press, freedom of expression, freedom of movement, for the dismantling of police states? How are democratic values related to being socially and sexually ‘liberal’?

The people are not calling for their socities to become like those in the west.

Yes they want the things you outlined, many of which are found within the Islamic Sharia.

Democratic socities allow individuals to live life as they please, just take a look at socities in the west and you can conclude the type of behaviour allowed within democratic societies and protected under the guise of freedom.
