Whats the opinion of guppies about them, r some guppans hooked on them?
Well, i find these digests to be very boring and childish. All stories are invariably love stories or centred around relationships.
*Theres lot of self talk specially on part of heroine.
*All characters are very emotional.
*Villains how bad they may be, get straightened by emotional outbursts of heroine.
*Character names are usually uncommon, Reem, Ilham, shandana, fareena etc.
*Characters during slef talk use full names like, “Rafey Ali kaash tum is larki key dil maiN jhaaNk ker daikha hota”
*The overall mood in all stories is that of sad ramonticism.
i'm not hooked but i do like to read, they do have some really good stories sometimes, i dont have too much time on my hands but when i get the chance i do have a read!!:)
i'm not too keen on the romantic stories bt i like the ones with a moral in the end.
I had been hooked to these digests for a while, but not anymore though, haven't read any since early this year.
I agree that most of the stories are love stories, like the ones you have described, but they do have some good writers, who create beautiful and thoughtful stories. I wouldn't mind reading one of these digests, if I have enough free time on hand.
There was a novel published about two years ago called 'Peer-e-kamil' by Umera Ahmed in Shua/Khawaateen Digest (don't know which one), a remarkable and influential novel. If you ever get your hands on this novel, do read it, it's worth it.
i useed to raed tehm when i was 16...........secretly from my chachi.........
but i found that soem paksitani women's only source of recreation/entertainment is these magazines and tehy are so gullible to actually compare real; life issues to them...........and assume they are reflecting reality.
ridiculous stuff. my mumaani’s family is hooked on them. and if a new baby is born in our family, we go to them and ask them for names, since these mags have the weirdest newest names ever. i can’t stand them too icky and girly girly.
like ok, so usually a story goes like this: girl likes boy. boy likes girl. they can’t get married. they convince family to get married. after they get married, boy can’t stand girl because boy liked other girl. girl falls in love with boy. girl gets in trouble. boy comes to rescue. boy falls in love with girl, they have a baby throw in some jealous bhabi, a father who means well but doesn’t know anything, a bhai who would sacrifice life for sister, waghaira waghaira.
that whole breed of magazaines suck... khawateen, pakiza and what nots, beware there are some fierce defenders of these trash mags on this site, i will post a link to a previous discussion on this topic...once i find it

khwateeen, shua n kiran r almost the same...flow of urdu is quite evident...n all stories are not garbage...ut patang namez are very fasinating stuff (every one pronounce them differently)....since stories are in urdu so it also deals with normal pakistani life styles....nowadayz mostly writer have acknowledge the fact that girls do take inspiration from them...well i believe it is better to have hope them to demolish yourself in the current filthy enviornment. (if they wana have some rich hunk...let them pray for dat...n there is nothing bad in it...prolly they will change in that way)....back to the point...nowadays...writer are presenting more...human and eternal sovereign relation (dat is ALLAH SWT)...n there is nothing bad in it.
it is better if they put time on these things rather than like good oldendays on "BACKSTABING"!!!
(or guys if you even take that activity from them...wat else is left for them to do...don you know about pak environment!!!)
gym...no enuf money for fuel...for expensives suit...time...n not every one lives in defence.
sport....at this age (or reading such garbage) guli danda bhi koe nahi khail sakta.
TV...when you wana see (or in real words...after chores) u get a chance nothing relaxing is available...plus cables or dishes are not afforable by everyone (both in terms of money n also interms of mentality)
so please first reveal the alternative should b adopted by readers of these digest then pinpoint bad aspect.
(n pakiza'z urdu is not even upto matric level...bunch of ****)

M mom used to read lots of digests wheN I was a kid, I remember thinking the brides on the covers were so pretty...
i read them, i read anything i could get my hands on that included Sayara digest, Urdu digest, Reader's digest, there is one named Suspense i think and then khwateen and anchal (that was it i think). This was the variety which was available in my household along with Taleem o terbiyat and Bachoon ki duniya for kids.
Sure they are a little silly but i find them harmless compared to most of teen age or what some call chick flicks. Its crucial to grow out of them and if one can skip it while growingup than even better.
However during my last visit to pakistan i saw a solid change in khawateen, its pretty much gotten rid of romanticism more religious/cultural oriented.
well in college life i used to read them, but was not a regular reader as mom didnt allow us:hehe: and after shadi never read them kiu kai real life hi itnai caracters daikh liyai kai abb i dont feel need to read about them too:@:
