key logger

What’s a good key logger that you have used which provides info on what sites were visited and logs key strokes. I need to recommend it to someone with young teenage kids who are suspected of being naughty while their parents are away. The kids are somewhat computer savey but the parents are not, so please recommend something which is not easily detected but easy to use.

Re: key logger

There are few of them out there, e.g. CyberPatrol, CyberSitter, NetNanny etc. However they are not called keyloggers but internet safety software.
Here’s one that’s free for home use: http://www.k9webprotection.com/
Haven’t used that one yet. Give it a try.

Re: key logger

I want one that you can use to simply block everything except the sites that you specified in a simple list. The sites that you think are safe. www.cartoonnetwork.com, www.disney.com, etc.

Here’s a comparison chart: http://internet-filter-review.toptenreviews.com/

Asif, try this out: http://www.safefamilies.org/softwaretutorial.php

Re: key logger

Since the kids are sort of young adults they don't want to block access, but rather find out what they have been upto and then talk to them. It's kind of hard to explain..... :~\
Anyways, they want to record the key strokes so they can see what they have been chatting etc etc. Yeah I know they are breaking the Privacy Act, but that's thier business. I just want to give them what they had asked. So no netnanny or cyberpatrol type blocking stuff, but rather a spy type software.

Thanks.

Re: key logger

Ok, this should work for your delimma: Keylogger: FREE Home Keylogger - invisible keystroke recorder. Put Yourself in Control! Home Keylogger

Re: key logger

I think this will do.
Thanks!

Re: key logger

There is no broken privacy act if the kids are under age. It would be wrong to not watch out for them actually.

Re: key logger

BTW, I haven't tested that kmint21 software so user beware. May contain spyware.

Re: key logger

Asif, check out Windows SteadyState. I don’t use it for controlled/restricted access but rather hard disk protection (which basically reverts whole hard disk to a certain state after restart preventing spyware/viruses or addition/deletion on hard disk etc to damage your system). But it does allow you to specify which program a certain user account has access to along with restricting CD rom /usb access, specific web site access, restriction on menu options in IE etc. There is a demo youtube video on their site where they show kids in indian school lab are using computers and how steadystate helps least amount of efforts to remove viruses or preventing students from wasting time on activities other than lab work etc.

Re: key logger

Privacy act? Bush can tap your phone.. lol

Re: key logger

you may consider this one … if its a desktop then this can be best solution.

Re: key logger

I installed it on mine to try out. I think it will do the job  :asa:
I wasn’t serious about the privacy act…no such thing in desi community

Re: key logger

1 put the pc in the living room
2 talk to them
3 if the kid is cleverer than you he/she will figure out a way to get round your nannying!
4 you cant protect them for ever

Re: key logger

Very true...most important put the computer in a very public place...

and SKY...for the key logger...that can get you in trouble if the kids r over 16..or if they happen to spy on adults...(from a law point of view in USA)

Re: key logger

Privacy act only applies if u are are spying on a computer that is owned by someone else.

If parents own computer & verbally (even only) once tell their kids not to visit any site (specific or specific catagory) & they find the children breaching it ... they can stop them from using computer al-together. But if 17 year old own the computer & parents put a spy software then its a different matter.

Re: key logger

Why not check the IE history and block all those sites through firewall using admin password?

Kids can shutdown the firewall though but If they are this smart; they can kill key logger process from task-manager as well...

PS: Instead of spying kids ... let them know someone is watching them!!! ...

Re: key logger

.

Re: key logger

I think if a 17 years old holds responsible his/her parents for installing something to monitor appropriateness of content he/she has been watching on the net then that family has a lot more to worry about than just the law suit or legal action. :halo:

Re: key logger

Well I was talking with legal interpretation, of course morality is something different. Morally parents are responsible for many things what a 34 years old does, since childhood psychological effects etc.
