key logger

Re: key logger

This key logger thing is too much. After trying it out myself I'm now paranoid to use someone else's pc to check my email and stuff becasue EVERY key stroke including user id and password is logged in.

I dont' think desi kids would dare turn in their parents to authorities for doing such act :ASA:

Re: key logger

sky, I use roboform which among many other benefits also guards you against key loggers since the logins automatic and are not performed by using keyboard. It's a portable version too which I use that you can install on USB and take it wherever. Works like a charm. Well worth the money!

I regularly do a sync of my pc and usb to keep the logins and other data in sync. check it out.

Re: key logger

This looks very interesting. I will try it.
When you insert the USB with roboform2go, does it prompt you to enter password? My only concern is if the USB gets lost or gets into the wrong hands, they can easily get into all your things with password.

Re: key logger

Every time you use Robform or roboform2go, it asks you for the password FIRST time. It puts a tool bar on your browser window (very useful) which allows you to automatically login to various websites without having to remember username or login. It can even generate complicated long passwords for you.

It also has a "safe notes" feature which you can use to jot down important information to remember. All this is protected by your choice of AES or Blowfish etc. You can save your contact list, your logins, your profile data, notes, and bookmarks.

After you've entered the password first time then you can freely use it. However, after a certain time of inactivity (which you can set under options) it locks down again and you'd have to enter password once again to use it. The idea is that, say, you went away from your computer, roboform will automatically lock down after configurable period of time and only you can unlock it with the password.

The main thing with using roboform is to make sure to use long passwords. Actually, as a rule of thumb 14 or more characters long passwords with combination of numbers and capital characters are pretty impossible to crack (it will take more than 100 years to crack it with most powerful computer available) so you can be sure your information is safe if it's stolen or lost.

To add another layer of security, I use sandisk cruzer usb which comes with U3 installed. So whenever I plug that usb in, I've to enter a password to get even folder level view/access in win explorer. Once I enter U3 password then it automatically starts roboform2go and I've to enter its password to use it. This two password protection makes it absolutely impossible to steal information or crack it.

Roboform is the most useful software I've ever used. It's up there with sliced bread for being the awesome thing.

Re: key logger

Hey Roman, can you actually view passwords in Robform? Does it have Windows Mobile version? I've been using eWallet by Ilium software and it does have the WM5 version so either on the PC or on the road I have access to all software.
Yeah yeah, I know I can bring my Cruzer with me, but i need a PC to access info on it.

Re: key logger

Tofi, you have the option to either veiw passwords as stars or actual characters. You can switch between the two by a menu option if you need to quickly refer to a password. check their website to see if they mobile version or not.

Re: key logger

This is really neat stuff. The security combination between robo2go and USB w/ U3 should be pretty tight.

Re: key logger

I mainly bought roboform to solve ages old problem: I needed my contacts and sensitive information data on a portable device like USB so that I could access it even when I was out of town. Then once I went to Pakistan and had to access my bank account from there and I was concerned about the key logger etc on the machine I was using. So roboform2go solved both problems!

I can now safely login to my bank/credit card accounts etc without having to worry about key loggers since you don't use keyboard to login to these sites anymore! Also, if I ever lose my computer or USB, I'd be sure that no one can ever access that sensitive information because of the unbreakable security algorithm it uses.

Re: key logger

btw, if you decide to use roboform then don't forget to also download and use their goodsync. it's a very good and easy to use sync software which allows you to sync between any two folders. It seamlessly integrates with roboform to allow synchrnoziation between your computer and USB. you can even create more sync location to have a master backup of your whole roboform on a network (NAS)/external drive. Works like a charm.
