KC Lahore imposes ban on jeans after alleged threats
LAHORE: The Kinnaird College (KC) administration has banned the students from wearing jeans or other tight dresses in the wake of possible terrorist threats. The college has imposed a strict dress code that only allows students to wear Eastern dresses such as shalwar qameez or loose trousers. Dupatas have been made mandatory. KC Vice Principal Nikhat Khan told Daily Times the measures were in line with a government notification, and had no connection with rumours about burqa-clad women issuing warnings to students. She said jeans and tight dresses were banned on college premises since years but the new principal was unaware of the ban and girls were using this to their advantage. Students reported an atmosphere of fear after the introduction of rules that barred students from wearing dresses of their choice. afnan khan
If wearing jeans is your way of moving forward, then we would rather be backward than wear something that is so un-Pakistani as Jeans is. Saudis, UAE, Sudanese and Malayasians moved forward without even knowing a word of English by the way. If Hindus are so good at Angrezi and angrezi and angreziat are only ways to move forward, why are they behind these countries?

What is the definition of moving forward? Plz dnt mention saudi and sudan atleast. Kindly visit saudi arabia to see how much they have moved forward. 80% of the local population is ignorant and are not aware of any etiquattes yet the country has moved forward only because of the expatriates working for them and the oil they have. Indian and pakistani public and culture is definitely way ahead of these nations.
Also plz remember that even the saudi is a quiet conservative and un educated society yet they are slowly opening up and stressing the need to be educated for both men and women. However, ours is perhaps the only country in the world which is going back in time through the uneducated militant lot of our society who even put the girl schools on fire and dnt allow the ladies to get a proper education.
I would not comment that the jeans dress is right or wrong. But if this decision has been taken due to threats from militants then sorry to say if tomorrow militants will demand closure of KC or all girls colleges (as is the case in FATA and SWAT area), then would the administration and govt. accept this also. Would this be a good way of moving forward?

Bhyy it is not what you wear but how you wear it that is important......and Islam does not forbid you from wearing anything as long as you dress decently.
There is nothing unislamic about wearing a loose jeans and a loose kurta on top. It's all in your dirty minds....

I am in Khartoum and so let me tell you about Khartoum. There is not restriction on girls wearing jeans or skirts or tops, etc. They can drive, go out alone, pursue education and careers.
Almost all of their gathering are mixed gatherings. There was no concept of non-mixed marriage gathering at least in all the marriages I have attended in the last 2 years. On marriages all men and women dance together around a traditional singer. Even people with long beards and fully clad women can be seen dancing together. In the universities, you don't see mullah's with sticks separating girls and boys. You see them all sitting together.
You will not see people on the street give dirty looks to a girl if she is in jeans or a skirt. She will not get harrassed by anyone on the street because of her dressing even if it is late at night. She is not called a W$$$e by mullahs in the street.
Generally, people are well versed in English. There is awareness in people that English is an important language. English is not considered a Western symbol but a way to earn a better job. They realise that if their English is good, their chances of getting a better paid job are much higher.
I hope this will clear some of the misconceptions that you had. I can talk about Malaysia, Saudia and UAE as well. I have worked and stayed in all of these countries.
Now if some college bans burqa's then these fellows will be screaming all over about discrimination they face.
spot on, long ago i said.. this is the battle of two ideologies. If moderate win they will be let live by International Community.
But if monkeys defeated our security forces & take control over the country... then International Community will dis-integrate the Pakistan and contain the monkeys in one central place and fire daisy cutters on them until their cells are vanished from the face of earth.
