karrain, keejiye, karriye...

whats the diff in these three, all three are in the more respectful and formal tone than karro.
but what is the diff between the three?

Re: karrain, keejiye, karriye…

first one is request, second is a polite order, third is a suggestion :stuck_out_tongue:

See how good I am in Urdu :snooty:

Re: karrain, keejiye, karriye…

karrain: typical karachi urdu
keejiye: typical indian
karriye: everyone else minus the above two

Re: karrain, keejiye, karriye…

:hmmm: very philosopical question and it qualifies as a perfect example for this thread of mine. :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: karrain, keejiye, karriye...

no Mirch I am serious, i am tryign to find out are there any fine differences.
I am a farangi insaan who learnt urdu because of my mum's jootian but I am no expert, so I need to understand.

my wife being an abcd who speaks very little urdu, i had to explain the difference between hay and hain to her, othersise she would ask my mum 'app kaisi hay'

:D

but those are used in diff things

jayen vs jayiye
khaen vs khaiye
laen vs lijye
lAien vs Laiye
Khelain vs Khailye
daen vs dijye

is the one whic is more formal, i thin the latter oens are more formal than the former ones.
and ofcourse the most casual would be jao, khao, lo, lao, khelo, do etc/

right?

Re: karrain, keejiye, karriye…

awww, at least she makes the effort. Think of all the desis these days who pretend they can’t speak urdu or speak it with an accent…even though they still live in the homeland. I called my khala the other day and my cousin said “mama marrrkit gayeiN haiN.” The “r” in the market was even stronger than the amreekis :hmmm:.

Haven't u driven yourself mad yet?

OK, now I know. My kids speak Urdu to my wife so they have picked up a lot but they make the same mistakes all ABCDs make. To me they speak in English and from time to time they try to correct my foby accent. But once they grow, the grow out of that habit of trying to improve my accent. :D

Now back to your question , all three are substitutable with each other. There is no difference , they might have come from different geographies though , like one from Lucknow , the other from Delhi and the third one from Hyderabad Deccan.

Re: karrain, keejiye, karriye...

haan toh can someone tell me what the background of all three are if they are really basic substitutes, i would like to add that to my info that I can drop at some desi gathering when my urdu is being questioned :D

yep

Re: karrain, keejiye, karriye...
