supply and demand, where demand has stayed constant but the supply has been impacted on a massive scale due to circumstances beyond human controls i.e. natural disaster which has similar impact elsewhere.

This is all BS. tomatoes are planted every where in Pakistan. I am surprised that tomotoes are only comming from Sukkur and Balchistan? There is no control over prices of common commidities. Paki government is only there to squeeze out the last drop of blood from the poor community.

Re: Karachi tomatoes’ price goes up to Rs.140 per kg

it may look bad when the money is coming out your pockets, but what about all that money that is going in your pockets??????????????

Re: Karachi tomatoes’ price goes up to Rs.140 per kg

skilled labour now in pakistan is earning just as much as in any other country, pakistanis here in uk are moving back to pakistan cos companies like telenor, mcb, nestle, etc are paying them more.

per capita income has almost tripled since musharaf took over so income has grown three times more while inflation has doubled, so it all makes up at the end of the day.
people in pakistan only think about money they spend and not the money they make, its typical pakistani mentality they will be all happy with raising incomes but when prices rise they make a fuss.

my cosin in a village had a dairy farm and poultry farm in pakistan, he tells me 10 years ago the 1 chicken (2kg) would sell for Rs.60, and today only the profit in one chicken is around Rs.60
main thing here is that BUSINESSES ARE BOOOMING, this is huge incouragement for people to start businesses up, especially in rural areas where people can make hefty amounts from agriculture.,

Re: Karachi tomatoes’ price goes up to Rs.140 per kg

When Karachi's Malir area crop will ripe up in December and Janauary, this tomato will be sold here for Rs. 8-10 per Kg. And that is the best tomatoe in Pakistan - like the Cherry Tomato of Spain's Canary Islands.

Re: Karachi tomatoes’ price goes up to Rs.140 per kg

Well everything on this Eid was too costly - prices have never been so high. Rice, Oil, Flour, Milk everthing.

Re: Karachi tomatoes’ price goes up to Rs.140 per kg

This is the problem.

There is virtually no law and order in the country.

Anyone who is able to do any corruption can get away with it. The government has never really looked into the issue of price control bcoz the big businessmen, sugar & rice mill owners and land lords are in the government.

In gulf Indian tomatoe is available at price of less than a dollar, despite the costs of shipping across the ocean and more people in thesupply chain that make profit.

Re: Karachi tomatoes’ price goes up to Rs.140 per kg

Around 15th Ramadan, I bought the good quality tomatoes for just only Rs.30/= per Kg from Landhi.
