GeoTV is reporting that this seems to be a suicide bombing. Looks like al-Qaeda work to me. Will have to wait and see as more info becomes available. In any case, no cause is worth this kind of action.

This is neither a shia sunni nor a sunni sunni issue it is just terrorism people realise this.
Qazi husain ahmed on one of the news channel said that it is not a suicide attack but a bomb was planted near the stage and to him remote controlled device was used.If there was no police or other investigation agencies at the spot how can he make such a inaccurate and incorrect statement from outside karachi.when will these so called mullahs change

My initial feeling was that it is work of some mindless terrorists in balochistan (BLA and &hit) like that. Allah knows better.

The police are saying that the lack of a crater below the stage means that the bomb went off above the stage. The leading theory is that the bomb must have been carried by a suicide bomber on to the stage.
I this this is correlated by the fact that none of the pictures shown of the stage show a hole in it, as you would expect if a bomb was on the floor of the stage when it went off. The explosion would have to go off a couple of feet above the ground and have its force directed to the sides in order to kill this many people without leaving a crater.
Why would someone kill himself or herself to kill this many Muslims?

Oops… looking at another link, the police confirmed they’ve found the body parts of the bomber.

“The bomber used about 5 kilograms (11 pounds) of explosives obtained locally, and we have collected his body parts,” Siddiqui told The Associated Press.
Now that they’ve collected his parts, I guess the police will go on to identify who the bomber was. That should give us some idea as to who was behind this.

People who fight in the name of religion are the worst ppl on the earth. Life is a beautiful gift and one doesnt have any rights to snatch that from others.. so sad day for Pakistan. Think about the ppl who lost their close ones- I am not sure if anyone has gone thru that tragedy in his/her life but its utterly painful. May god bless the departed souls.

So many lives Shattered and so many dreams washed away. The affected families will have to live with the loss through rest of their lives. A big tragedy. I hope the perpetrators should be brought to book.

The city is in shock and chaos. And it takes a lot of sorrow to shut down a city like Karachi. Everyone and everything seems paralyzed by grief, fear and disgust. Some of the deceased have been burried and their funerals are being attended by countless.
The shia scholar Allama Turrabi who was also targetted by a blast few days ago while in his car injuring his driver had remained safe then and was on air yesterday and said the attacks on him and the attacks yesterday were part of a same conspiracy to destabalize peace and prosperity in Pakistan and to create disputes between Sunnis and Shias and other sects. He was convinced it's all being done by AntiPakistani non Muslims enemies of state and religion.
Meanwhile the organizer and one of the leaders of the Sunni Tehreek maulana something Qadri who was leading the prayer on ground right next to the stage on the right remained safe and in an interview on air said the same as maulana Turrabi and asked all muslims to unite and avoid misunderstandings and felt it was not possible for any muslim to do this to fellow muslims.
There had been contradicting reports about the presence of police and rangers. Apparently the crowds had burnt a fire engine, a police vehicle, a petrol pump, buses, few bikes and cars and were stoning passer by vehicles. This sort of reaction ought to be corrected. Every time something happens crowds add up to the damage.
Some sources say it was about 15kg of explosives and feel there could have been 2 bombers right in the 2nd row. Bomb Sqauds had said they had handed over the stage in the afternoon after thorough screening, and it's been proven by the forensics that it wasnt planted.
All educational institutions have been shut for 3 days. Many offices are all empty. All markets have been shut down too. Heart broken people even damaged property in the three main hospitals that received the victims. And as per some reports some young boys are also missing.

This is so apparent as was in other such instances, there is some foreign force trying to destabilise the country , the plot in my opinion was this Brelvi/shia fight by killing allama turrabi and then this blast, unfortunately this one worked and alhumdolilah allama turrabi survivied.
I dont think that it was suicide attack as it would be very diffcult for some one to go on stage unnoticed. i wonder how quickly some people named alqaida for this attack .
Deobandi brelvi difference was and is never that severe to lead to such an extent, any one in karachi can notice that the main jalooos of Eid milad goes infront of Binori town and nothing bad happens.
Reports in some news papaer and from other sources last month were that MQM terrorist Javed Langra was in karachi last week , (he is running a camp in india, ) i wonder it has to do with this?
Sunni tehreek being an ofshoot of MQM , had several clashed with MQM in past , may be some MQM people was used by those foriegn agencies.
