Karachi Airport Shootings

Re: Karachi Airport Shootings

It’s a bit of a stretch to think that really matters. The politicians and the military simply do not react to public will. It’s a nice sentiment…a bit childish though. And it passes the buck. So the fact that millions of Pakistanis are not out in the streets is because the religious leaders are not giving the nod for such a sentiment? Really? That’s what’s stopping people?

There is no such culture in Pakistan. There is SO much more than a simple and rather modest terrorist attack that goes in in Pakistan, much by elected officials no less, that should have invoked spasms of protest among the Pakistani masses long ago…just never happens.

I think everyone has their small circle of concern, and anything that doesn’t fall within it, they’re all too content with letting the status quo be. That’s a hallmark of Pakistani political culture, and proclamations or allusions to the contrary, I think the religious leadership are influenced more by this culture than they have influence over it.

But by all means, let’s point out at a select group and put a whack load of blame on them…even though they’re not really involved. Or have tenuous ability to influence.

But they don’t cry themselves hoarse. They do keep bringing it up. Sure. Over and over again, perhaps. Usually to build sympathy for a political stance they have. And, to be fair, that’s all a lot of people focus on when they do speak, so it’s very well a matter of perspective. But…nothing happens. Drone strikes continued. Aafia is locked up. And yet you expect them speaking up to stop the TTP?
