I think he really needs an earful from inzi and woolmer, the last 2 times he has batted, the shots hes played to get out just simply un acceptable. I know he is our blue eyes boy but the shot he played in 1st tets 2nd innings in tight situation after hitting 2 4’s was atroious, but toodays shot in last over of the day after younis’ wicket, that pull shot he played, he needs to be given a dressing down! horrible! he is pretty experienced now! also his wicket keeping has been atrocious!

no1 is doubting his talent but he has actually not prgressed and degressed, maybe its a sign of too much cricket, i think he is someone who hasnt missed a match in the last 2-3 yrs, but that doesent excuse those shots!

I think some of you guys are being just a little too harsh on Akmal. Yes he had a forgettable 2006 and he should probably be rested for the one-day internationals against SA for three reasons
1 - firstly to let him know that no one’s indispensable
2 - secondly to prevent burn-out…to give him a break from almost 18 months of non-stop wicket-keeping &
3 - last but not the least to give Zulqarnain Haider some exposure to international cricket ahead of the WC. We need a match-fit back-up. Don’t we?
Akmal has 121 dismissals (103 catches and 18 stumpings) in 32 tests (which obviously excludes SA’s second innings which is still to come). That’s a ratio of 3.78 dismissals per test (121/32 minus SA second innings). That’s better than Rashid Latif 3.51 (130/37), Saleem Yousuf 3.25 (104/32), Bari 2.81 (228/81) and Moin Khan 2.14 (148/69)
Moreover his current test batting average of 29.75 is better than Rashid Latif 28.77, Moin Khan 28.55, Saleem Yousuf 27.05 and Bari 15.88.
Finally he has 4 test hundreds the same as Moin but in less than half as many matches.
I know stats are not the only measure of greatness but equally they can’t be dismissed altogether.
So atleast by Pakistani standards he’s right up there

GA: Thanks for the stats, I personally believe he is a pretty decent keeper, lots of people don't like him due to his "squeekiness" that to me is a very petty thing. He is okay keeper and good-ok batsman who has saved our behind few times as well as won (few) game(s) already. The only reason I would back ZH is to groom a new keeper plus give Kamran some break + signal.

Robbers injure Kamran Akmal’s father

LAHORE, Jan 19: Robbers on Friday night shot at and injured the father of cricketer Kamran Akmal near Factory Area on Sheikhupura Road. Reports said some armed men held up Muhammad Akmal Siddique outside the Data Darbar and drove him towards Sheikhupura Road. As Mr Siddique put up resistance, the gangsters shot at and injured him and drove away with the vehicle, besides taking away cash in thousands and cell phone. Deserted on the road, the injured was taken to the Mayo Hospital where he was admitted.

There are no available stats showing missed catches, stumpings by a wicketkeeper, one can only express an opinion based upon personal experience. Duntoo to his credit has dropped crucial catches missed stumpings more than any other Pak wicketkeeper in modern day cricket. Pakistan has always been blessed with strike bowlers who will generate chances for the wicketkeepers, its for them (W/K) to provide that strong support system. Sadly, Akmal contribution in that respect have been mediocre to say the least.
Pakistan needs the best of best, Akmal may have been good but now has descended further into a below average category. Fact that Zulqernain has been taken as a backup wicketkeeper indicates team management losing confidence in Akmals infallibility.

His "performance" today yet again proved that he needs a break. Keepers are mostly judged by the chances they drop. Unfortunately, Kamran has to be the worst at the moment from that perspective.

What these stats hide is the number of cathes and stumpings he has missed and having watched Bari, Yousaf, Rashid and Moin I feel strongly that Akmal is the worst of the lot when it comes to missed stumpings and dropping catches.

Bari was probably the best keeper of them all and Bari apart the rest were all handy with the bat
