So what was the Pakistani brain trust pulling with Kamran Akmal?
He can’t even bat in the subcontinent (its comman knowledge) and they go to Australia with him as the sole WK. How stupid is that? He’s flat out a worse batsman than Sami, maybe even Shaoib, anybody who saw him “bat” against India last year knows as much. This day in age, who can afford to play a WK who can’t hold a bat, its ludicrous. Especially a team like Pakistan, we need all the help we can get putting runs on the board. It will be even worse in the ODI’s where an extra batsman is much more important than a specialist keeper, really the lack of planning in Pakistani cricket is baffling at times.
For ODI's I guess the selectors have Younis Khan in mind. Isn't that correct ?
They've tried Younis, I dont think he is a good enough to keep against the spinners. He really struggled in that role against Lanka, though he was good for the pacers.
I would'nt be surprised if they recall Moin for the ODI's once the current experiment runs its course at the end of this test series.
I would not jump to the conclusion because even our top order batsmen struggle overseas so why blame Kamran only? Yes he looks ordinary with the bat but with Rashid's conflict with Inzimam and Moin's horrible batting form we did not have much choice! At least Kamran is a decent keeper! I really wish Rashid was not such a loose cannon warna hewould have made another successful comeback considering the form he was in with both bat and gloves.
Some1-- I think Moin will be recalled for ODIs if Kamran doesnt perform because Moin himself will not be too keen on test matches and he scored a century in domestic competition a few days back so unfortunately Moin will be recalled for ODIs in all likelyhood.
We all know how much of a horrible batsmen Akmal is...and I hope the selectors knew that as well before selecting him...I guess they just wanted a natural keeper...but I agree...his batting is terrible...worse than Sami. But going by Moin's current form...I guess they are the same but Akmal is a better keeper.
Yeah Moin was in bad form, but with him there was a chance, no matter how slim, that he would break out and score. With Akmal, you just know he will get out.
The best situation would have been if Rashid could have gotton over his issues with the board and played here.
Maybe we should bat Sami 7th ahead of Akmal, at least that gives a chance for a decent partnership with the last batsman....

Moin's bad form lasted for around 7 months. It wasnt a bad form, it was THE end. Everytime he flopped we hoped that he would perform in next match but sadly it was not his form, his whole attitude was missing which signalled his end as one of the grittiest cricketers we have seen.
Kamran is young and energetic, I hope he learns and learns quickly. he got big shoes to fill in. I would agree with you that ideal scenario would have been Rashid's come back but alas!
akmal has been out of form since his existence in cricket... someone should take away his gloves and hide them... moin was a senior, respected player amongst his teammates... against a juggernaut like aus they could have used his encouragement and experience.... im not trying to harp on the whole experience angle but seriously they could have used him... pak should have taken two wk's cuz somewhere in this tour its goona hurt them badly
To be honest, i dont like this kid...cause he cant bat that good...i think pak should find a wicketkepeer batsmen.
I think Kamran Akmal is the right chotce for this tour he is as good as moin. after all is not Reg.batsman, any way moin has to go sooner or latter.
humayun farhat was the best choice :k:
and what do u know abt humayun farhat…would you like to share with us Ma’am…
The way Pakistan is playing, I would sit Kamran and play Younis in his place. In place of Younis's reglular spot, play Asim Kamal.
Another change--call Taufiq and give Imran one way ticket to pakistan.

humayun filled in moin's shoes in ARY Gold cup in sharjah in 2000 in which he performed very good, or shud i say better than akmal atleast
^^ that was four Yrs. ago.......Anway..the wicket keepers Pak have tried beside Moin and Rashid are
**Atiq-Ur-Rehman: **First given a Chance Aganist SL in second Test in 1999-2000, scored runs in second crucial innings when Pak failed chasing a reasonable target..lokked good with Bat and behind the stumps...had to sit out when Moin came back as captain, was given another chance under Waqar Younis is Hong Kong and batted reasonably but i think dropped a crucial catch of Kallis of waqar's bowling in Final...so was not considered after Moin came back.also unfortunately got caught in sex scandle before team left for ICC tournament in Kanya
FOr next Yr's NZ tour** Humayoun Farhat**was pickedup and played in second and thirdt test match, was okay behind the stumps but was explosive with Bat, scored quick fire runs in a Sharjah final but i heard missed couple of Stumping oppertunities the same series...which proved to be his downfall.
then came Kamran Akmal was picked up for Zim tour in 2002 and performed well with Bat and didnt look bad behind the stumps either, so he was given extended chance in SA tour too, where played reasonably well. and now has gotten another chance against Aussies.
To me after Moin and Rashid Kamran is our best bet behind the stumps....he is young, he can play for Pak for quite a while...hasnt made any blunder behind the stumps....is (lets admit is)not doing worse job than Moin infront of stumps and is definetely more reliable than him behind the stumps...what if he hasnt done anything special with Bat so far....who has in this tour yet, Salman Butt, so may be he should be picked up as Wicket keeper????

PhoenixDesi Brother, its time for you to retire now.....
thing with akmal is not just this tour so far... he hasnt done anything with the bat ever.... he blowed on the A team's tour a while ago... moin khan is just as good as akmal behind the stumps and his batting may not be what it was but he has the ability to pull a rabbit out of his hat once in a while... although i pray that akmal proves me wrong
^Agreed LL Sahib. I really hope Akmal proves me wrong, but I really doubt that will happen.
To get an indication of his batting check the index for the India A, Kenya, Pakistan A tri series in Kenya this summer. The guy actually opened the batting in most of the matches, and quickly glancing over the results, I would guess his average is less than 10. I wonder what he did to get selected, maybe Zulqernain Haider would have been a better pick as a youngster?
I agree but Kamran Akmal ain’t bad either. :k:
yup elahi bhai those stats will give u nightmares along with akmal's voice behind the stumps.... i heard humayan farhat came back to domestics this year and was extremely overweigt and out of shape... i think he was out of cricket for a while... dont think he's very good anymore
