I feel sorry for Pakistan's pain. Thanks god at least there is no loss of innocent civilian lives like that of 11/26 Mumbai attack.

Its hard to distinguish good intelligence from bad. sometimes what comes in the intelligence is of purely hearsay nature.

but there is never a harm in beefing up the security, knowing that similar threat was detected before attack on SL cricket team.

The attack was stopped successfully and the militants sent to hell. How was this a failure? How many times in other countries have we heard that the plots were discovered yet the attacks went ahead. Ghar kee murghi daal baraber. By sending these animals to hell a point has been made unlike previous attacks where these animals were roaming around freely and it took security forces long time to regain control.
Come on dont rubbish them all the time. It is easy to sit on a computer keyboard and criticise.

Granted that Kamra is in a built-up area and not completed isolated, militants should still not have been able to enter the place esp. after we had received very specific information of an imminent attack. Ofcourse it is not possible to prevent every single attack but once you have received specific intelligence you are expected to do better (i.e. prevent it)
All the security personnel praying at the same time is another loophole. *perhaps they should have two separate timings (cf. Eid prayers) * If some terrorists had managed to enter the London Olympic park (despite reported threats) but not been able to cause serious damage because of timely action by the British security forces, will it have been considered a satisfactory performance by them since the park is in a built-up area?

7/7 happened despite intelligence reports of something brewing. It is not that easy. The intelligence in this case was there and I think they were ready and alert and got them.

they have been pinned down or not is that important, at the end of the day the attack was carried out as per the intelligence reports and the ISI/MI could do nothing about it.
In a country where Taliban and other inhuman animals roam around freely in large parts of the country and supported by a large portion of population, what do you expect the army or those agencies to do for preventive measures?

How do I know? I have talked to people who come from areas ruled by Taliban, I know it from molvis in Pakistan, I have found it from local newspapers that more number of people sympathise with Taliban compared to army.
Remember how many people came out to protest OBLs killing?

^ Osama bin laden is a non issue in Pakistan. I don't think anyone had any sympathy with Obl, on the other hand people were shocked on the way Americans carried out the attack with impunity and our forces couldn't detect it. A few days later taleban attacked PNS mehran which increased the doubts in the mind of people regarding military's capabilities.
As far as this war is concerned a very large proportion of people don't consider this to be our war but that doesn't necessarily translate into support for taleban. Almost 12 years to this war and still no solution in sight, army operations is a part of counter insurgency, holding the areas, building them, economy etc are also part and parcel but no work has been done there. The laws of the county should have been changed when Pakistan joined the war on terror, but to date there's no change with the result any culprit who is caught later gets released due to lack of evidence. This point was raised by kayani during the independence day function.

What I really tried to say is that Taliban and their ideology is like a virus in Pakistan that is there due to sympathy and support of the people, those people even appreciate it when this virus hurts others and complain only when it hurts them.
And your statement that this war is going for 12 years without a solution validates my point, it is because it is not the job of army alone to wipe out Taliban and their ideology, they will never go away as long as people are supporting and sympathising with them.

its true that people of those areas support/not-against talibans, that's why it take a long long period to win aginst taliban even for super power of the world in afghanistan.

I dont understand how people here are claiming, or even implying that this was a failure of any sort.
- Intelligence was good (and correct), which is why a warning was sent out a couple of weeks back.
- The response by the security forces was quick and lethal. All terrorists were taken out, with very little damage caused. One shaheed, who has made his way to jannah, and one injured commander.
The fact that there was prior intelligence about such an attack does not mean that security forces should somehow have nabbed these terrorists at their homes while they were having their dinner. Prior intelligence simply means that security forces should prepare themselves for such an attack, and should be able to repulse it, should it happen. And that is exactly what happened. They came. We saw. We conquered.

^ British had one 7/7 and after that many attacks have been foiled by busting the rings of the terrorists and nabbing the culprits (this is the job of intelligence agencies all around the world) before terrorist attacks taking place. The response in this case was good and led by the base in charge himself (good for the morale of his staff) but we should understand that we are talking of perhaps the most important air base in the country, and considering that there were intelligence reports about it I believe this attack should have been averted. This is not an isolated incident, many attacks like this have occured during the past 5 years.
