KAFAN [the shroud] is NOT supposed to be stitched yet we have “Kafan Silnaa” [stitching of the shroud] phrase in Urdu which is quite common in it’s usage.
why is it so? any insights that you may have will be appreciated.
Re: KAFAN and the it’s STITCHING…a liguistic question!

Khaala: “beTaa, tumhaaraa kafan sil rahii huuN…aa ke naap de jaao!”
crank caller: “Khaala, maiN apnii rooH ko bhejtaa huN, usii ke naap kaa sil deN!”
Re: KAFAN and the it’s STITCHING…a liguistic question!
you are talking about something else…kafan taiyaar rakhnaa chaahiye matlab always be ready to die…jaise…Haajis take kafan with them when they go for Haj and they get buried in the same kafan if they die during the Hajj or even years after they return from Hajj.

This generally happed in southern India not in Poorab.
when a child is born people celebrate birth, silmilarily when one dies others should as soon he/she will become resident of heaven, I have seen Lingayats doing it:)
Dressing of Dulhan is a request to god that girl should not be punished for not completing Pitr Rina, unmarried people in North are not burned but buried:)
