You are right, Hanibal. Nothing will ever be enough and there will always be cracks through which children will fall through.
I don’t think its possible to take measures where such culprits would “cease to exist”…because it’s very complex issue. People who abuse/kill children are often times products of dysfunctional upbringing. They may have been abused as kids themselves. Or perhaps they fell into the wrong sohbat as they grew older. I know that many people will disagree (and so be it)…but I do believe that the filth you watch on TV has an impact on your mind…(porn, etc). Law enforcement has to be stricter, more efficient.
It’s harder for us to control other people and their families and what they watch TV and who they hang out with and whether or not law enforcement and politicians are doing their jobs. But what we CAN do…is increase our own vigilance, right?
I know that in the US, kids are educated about “stranger danger” and what they should do when a stranger approaches them. They are educated about what an “inappropriate touch” looks like and that such touches are not acceptable from certain people. They are encouraged to talk to their parents. Kids should feel comfortable to tell their parents about things…they shouldn’t feel afraid. Even older kids (and especially girls) have to be educated about what possible warning sings or red flags they need to watch out for when the are out and about with peers. Kids are told in advance (or should be) that they should wait inside the building to be picked up…and not outside the building…and they are also told in advance which adults are allowed/expected to pick them up and which ones aren’t.
Don’t let kids walk alone from one place to another. My dadi’s home is connected to the masjid. And kids often go there for Quran recitals. It’s only 2-3 footsteps away. But unless a parent is watching the kid (from the door or window) …those 2-3 footsteps is enough time for a stranger to approach a child. I’ve seen it so many times that kids are being tutored in a basement or in the opposite side of the home and parents don’t even walk by once to check if everything is okay. Consider sending your child with another person/s for tuition, etc. In the case of a daughter, consider having a female tutor.
Some people argue that the other girls who were raped prior to Zainab…there parents had been in their homes…and so absence of parents is not the issue. I find this to be a weak argument. A sex offender’s job becomes only easier if they know that the child’s parents are absent or far away…or that the child is unaccompanied/unsupervised.
In smaller cities in Pak (and I come from one) everybody knows everybody’s business. Everyone knows who is going for umrah, who is going to Amreeka, who is coming from where, etc etc. So when parents are going to be out of town…then you either take your child with you, or if you are going to leave them behind with a relative…then you can suspend any activities that entail leaving the house…until you return. Or at least the parents can set the condition that the child must be accompanied by an adult to and from the Quran class. If the child is being picked up…then he/she should be taught that you must wait inside the building…and not outside on the street. Children have to be told in advance who is allowed to pick them up and who isn’t.
Sex offenders could even be among your relatives. Parents often send their little girls to play with older male cousins. You can maintain a respectful interaction with relatives …while also…keeping limits for your children. Keep an eye out on the games your children are playing. I know of cases where little girls are playing a seemingly innocent game of “hide and seek” with much older male cousins…and are led to hiding places …where inappropriate things happen…and meanwhile the parents are chatting away in another room..completely clueless. Keep an eye out for …whom your kids are playing with…keep an eye out for what games your kids are playing…also keep an eye out for which relatives/people are always around your child cuz that, too, can be a warning sign. Talk to your kid…ask them about what they were playing…and who they were with…what happened…how their day at school was…etc etc.

Sadly, nothing will happen. Today some celebrities protested outside Sindh Assembly. Maybe they came with sincere intention or it was a cheap method of getting media highlights. Whatever it was, nothing is going to happen. Face it that Pakistan is a Satanic Republic like the rest of the world. It’s nowhere close to peace and Islam. Here you kill someone and walk away if you’re influential. Shahrukh Jatoi won’t be hanged. Some Achakzai hit and killed a sergeant in Quetta and he was also released on bail. Pakistan in particular and this world in general is under Satan, Dajjal with oppression and injustice all around. The oppressed, the victims won’t get justice here. That’s why we have to believe in the day of judgment.

I would assume that the number is in millions, maybe you cannot completely prevent but can vastly reduce crime by having neighborhood watch. Focus of laws and society has not been on protecting women and children. Mostly the Taliban mentality dictates that women and girls dont leave the house and if they did then they invited it upon them.

some good points in this post…only those can understand it fully who have lived and grown up in Pakistan.
it is a very delicate situation. Yes we shd not blame poor parents. they just tried to get on with their lives and trusted the society but on the other hand, they forgot that parents also need to make decisions based on the society they are living in and what kind of risk that society is offering to their kids. in qasoor over 11 innocent souls were raped and killed in last 12 months, over 200 kids were raped, molested, and video taped few years ago. and not one person was caught or hanged. so obviously the risk factor was way too high.
anyway, i just feel sorry, a lot of grief, pain for those parents. may allah give them courage to bear this pain
and what about other 11 girls who were raped and killed? their parents were not away for umras. so basically we are living in a brutal animal society where no kid is safe, i reckon
this incidence is so harsh that I could not even gather my thoughts for days to write something. her innocent face comes and haunts me all the times. the pain that poor soul had to go through simple consumes me. i feel like zainab has put all of us in a collective pain and guilt. we are feeling helpless, depressed, angry, upset because nothing will ever change in Pakistan. zainab was the not first one. 11 more souls were raped and killed and nothing has happened and nothing will happen. police is useless, politicians are bloody suckers and people dont look for each other as they used to in past

I dont care what is happening in other countries. i care about Pakistan and in Pakistan sexual abuse of kids is so pronounced that it is almost an epidemic.
the problem is that nothing gets published or reported in Pakistan on this topic. everyone prefers to be quiet. Otherwise, in our villages/towns/slums, majority of kids get sexually abused by their elders and strangers. probably 90% of kids who live inside madrassas get sexually molested by movis and elder students and then they molest new ones. A vicious cycle.
those poor kids who work in restaurants, workshops get molested regularly. In our homes, I have heard horror stories. mamoons, chachas, grandfathers molesting their young relative kids. BBC has reported so much on this topic in Pakistan. in NWFP, this disease is even also pronounced (some excellent reports by BBC on this topic as well). but no one wants to talk about it. everyone denies it.
the worst place for sexual abuse are madrasas. start hanging all such molvis and qaris. start the good work there.

now if you think about madrassas, that is where this problem has reached to no limit. poor parents will go have 6-8 kids in villages and small towns and will gladly send bench of them to live in madrassas so that they dont have to bear the expenses and then never do any follow up with them. these poor kids are totally on the mercy head molvi, his junior molvi goons and elder students. this has been reported very widely and if credible statistics ever come out, over 90% of madrasas students will found to be molested. Hang these molvis. Most of them are child rapists because it has become a culture in their fraternity. one needs to change the cultre by acting brutally efficient. just listen to this molvi who is permitting his crime with no real remorse. still hoping allah will forgive him. raped the boy and then killed him by cutting his neck with a big knife.

yes, most cases are not reported and that point is already raised in this thread. The poor families send their children to workshops and vendors while mostly average class send their children to madrasas. and molvis after reading madrasa will take over a masjid, become imam or juma khutba orator etc hence hardly affecting the society but people that are in religious sphere. And what’s happening in school and college hostels has a huge impact instead.
The mentality of average man in sub urban areas is actually dangerous. If you have spent your childhood in Pakistan, you would know that elderly boys take pride in telling stories about how many children they have molested. that is the thing needs to be rectified from the society. The victims are shamed after being victimized. A movli can be whatever you say but will not resort to this attitude at-least.

fail to understand that in a town like qasoor where everyone knows everyone, where people are standing in streets doing nothing but killing time and watching pedestrians, a man walks with a 6 yr old girl right through the bazzar (based on cctv) and no one took notice? no one knows who that person was? and it has happened 11 times before as well and it is the same person per DNA report. how come he is hiding himself so successfully in a small crowded town where there is no privacy whatsoever. he must have walked into his residence in a crowded congested town like qasoor with a young girl and no one took notice? he had to come out to dispose dead bodies, not one time but 11 times and not one person saw him?
there are rumors that the abductor was not the rapist. rapist is someone else and he used different abductors to kidnap all these girls and that is why there is not one single abductor who would have got public attention. plus the rapist must be an extremely influential person and police is trying to protect him.
at this point, my biggest fear is that police will stage some story and will kill an innocent and will declare him the rapist but 4 different agencies are involved plus i think army pressure is there too, and therefore police cannot do much. this tells you how “ucked” up our country is. all of us do not trust police at all and firmly trust that police will save this animal. is this the Pakistan we wanted to have on the name of islam?

Exactly, if i was resident of that mohalla, i would easily identify that person from the upper he is wearing, they way he is walking and how he looks. But it seems he was an outsider and came from other city on call of some powerfull or he is chamcha of some badmash. Normally biggest badmash of an area are the MNAs then MPAs then other feudals. No one would take risk of going to court against these badmash.
