A day after the ICC launched a formal investigation into Pakistan’s win in the third ODI at The Oval, Ijaz Butt has hit back at what he believes to be a “conspiracy to defraud Pakistan and Pakistan cricket”. In an astonishing, prepared statement read out to ESPNcricinfo, the board chairman also indicated that suspicion should be cast on England players from that loss and that the PCB will soon reveal the names of those parties allegedly involved in the conspiracy.

Haroon Lorgat is not a saint from heaven: Ijaz Butt
The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt has said that International Cricket Council Chief Haroon Lorgat is ‘not a saint from heaven’ making statements everyone should believe in.
Butt was speaking to Express 24/7 on the recent match fixing allegations leveled against Pakistan. He said that the allegations are being leveled to defraud Pakistan and Pakistan Cricket and that the PCB has launched its own investigation, and will be announcing names of parties, organisations and people involved.
He also said that according some bookies, some English players were paid enormous amounts of money which is why the England batting collapsed in the third one day.
Butt said that it was unfortunate that statements and allegations had been levelled without any investigations, and that he would be bringing up these questions ata meeting on the 11th.
Speaking on the previous match fixing allegations, he said that all three players have been questioned by Scotland Yard for nine hours and no charges had been pressed against them.
Pakistan cricket recently received another blow, after a UK based paper alleged that Pakistan players were involved in fixing the third one day international.

PCB showing some metal - finally.
I am not mad at ICC doing the investigation, with our own record, any organization will investigate the suspensions but its the WAY they did it all. Making it public even before investigations started, without taking PCB into loop (but taking ECB in loop) and ECB coming out at the same time saying that "there is no english players named). This clearly shows that ECB was in loop but PCB only came to know from media.

I love that his PROOF against England players is that " there is talk in bookie circle that eng players were involved " .. HAHHAHAHAHA.... good job mr. butt you are very well connected with the bookie circle that you know whts the TALK there.. and is that really evidence? that evidence is as illogical as mr. haroon's recent statement..

^ That was exactly his point. HE was saying that if that is the only proof that Logart have, then why not English players and ECB name too ? after-all same talk is around for them too...

Recent actions by the ICC have been irresponsible and PCB has every right to sue them and everyone else involved if these allegations are proven false.

I have sympathy for Mr. Butt as far as this episode is concerned, but I think he has chosen the wrong path to fight it out. If he had acted rightly when the 'trio' case was made public and suspended the players on his own till the investigations were over, ICC won't have the moral authority to release details of this episode like this. Add to that the stupid way the High commissoner acted, reducing his own credibility.

But the finger of suspicion should surely fall on the english batsmen following their miserable capitulation with the target well within reach
That all really depends what the scoring pattern hint was. This is what's stupid about ICC statements. No details given. Absolutely retarded. Hence now all this random speculation.
If the pattern was about Pak's batting scores than Eng batters have nothing to do with it. With the way ICC said " no no no ENg players involved " it looks like the lead was regarding Pak's scoring pattern. Hence no blame on Eng batsman or talk abt the Eng batters collapsing. Again this is all speculation based on what exactly the lead was!!

chalooo if not english batsmen then how about english bowlers who let the Pakistani batsmen score..in a totally opposite scenario people would have easily blamed Pakistani batsmen for collapsing so cheaply or would have blamed Pakistan bowlers for making sure that english batsmen score the "required" numbers of runs.
When it comes to Pakistan team, each and every player is guilty till proven innocent and for obvious reason this logic doesn't apply to any non Pakistan players.

I am all for the PCB chairman standing up for Pakistan but at 2:30 & 3:31 in the above interview video he says "...why just putting out a statement that Pakistan is involved and India is not involved..."
Don't understand why he is bringing India into this? or did he mean to say England but as it so happens, he is trying to figure out how to blame India for this?
Or if he meant the bookies from India, by his own logic he should me mentioning Dubai and Englan as well

The question that every Pakistani should ask themselves (with regards to what BUTT is alleging) :
What is so special about Pakistan that the whole world appears to be conspiring against them ?
The first step to solve a problem is to acknowledge that a problem exists. Alas, the concept is unheard of in Pakistan.

The unpredictability and flair thing
Unpredictability is our strength. Pak cricket will never be known for consistency. It is the unpredictability of Pakistani cricketers that injects life into the game. This is what makes them a dangerous side. You never quite know which Pakistan team w'd show up on the day of the match.
I w'd never use 'exciting cricket' and england (more often boring) or South Africa (efficient rather than exciting) in the same sentence

I just hope Ijaz Butt has strong evidence to back his conspiracy claim....
Regardless of whethere there was spot-fixing in the 3rd ODI (I still have my doubts), the way ICC and Lorgat esp. handled this new accusation by The Sun, releasing statement without even consulting or taking PCB into confidence is very improper and unprofessional. There can be no two opinions on that

But from the pov of Pakistani fans, it is understandable to have an anxiety of the allegations to somehow become untrue. Poor guys have been dealt with enough natural and political problems, at least cricket should be a stress-reliever not add stress.

no smart aleck.. I really don't know. You tell me why it is so odd to score 7 runs in overs # 39 and 40 when you have lost two set batsmen in over number 39 and 40 and the new new players Razzaq and Gul are playing at 0.
