- why people are interested in marrying someone who works with no schedule,
- and surrounded by diseases all the time?
- They always need to update their education since someone’s life might get in danger so they are always always need to test their memorizing skills
- and since world population is accumulating every second, so their workload is tripling and in many cases they don’t appear sincere to their work.
Re: Just curious
those who dont feel like going through the above explanations, let me make it easy for you:
the OP wants to know, why people are interested in getting married to a Doctor ![]()
go on… I dont have the answer ![]()
Re: Just curious
zobia, I never wanted to marry such a person.
I had many doctors in the family, I know them, they come with too much sanity for my taste. ![]()
Re: Just curious
haha any desi parent can answer your question very easily.
In a nutshell,
1- financial security
2- status/reputation
3- he might actually be a genuinely nice guy
4- compatibility (assuming their own daughter is a doctor)
5- other factors, such as looks, family background, etc.

I dont believe they actually start making any money until they hit mid thirties cuz initially they need to work more and get paid less and pay off their student loan or what ever loans. and when they are done with their residency and fellowship and bla bla or may be i dont know what more is the procedure then they can invest in making their own private clinic and work and start practicing how to delay the recovery of their patients to they keep visiting em.
Re: Just curious
Op, there are other jobs that are equally if not more stressful...some where one may have to travel a lot or live away from family....others where one puts their life at risk. You don't want to marry a doctor, by all means don't. That doesn't mean that all of those people are not sincerely dedicated to their field or that they and their partners can't make their marriage work.
Re: Just curious
One thing you can not argue is that you can not ask for a better parent then a physician.
Like whos better person as parent then the one who knows your hardware.
Like a car owned by a mechanic.

Not everyone has a huge loan. Med school tuition isn't the same everywhere. Also, some people have their families to help them pay off their debt.
In the US, residency is 3 years and true, you don't make enough. Following residency, you can either do a fellowship or continue in your current post (either with the hospital or on your own privately). The avg is around $175,000-200,000. In a lot of other professions, it would take years before you start making six figures. So being a doctor definitely has its perks.
Also, my sister is a doctor and I take offense when you insinuate that all doctors are greedy or not sincere to their work. Exceptions are everywhere. Maybe in your experience you have met the wrong kind of doctors. And I agree some people really are in it for the wrong reasons. But you shouldn't generalize that everyone is like that.

its not about what i want, it is the general desire i have witnessed among mothers. and if you don't like any thread by all means skip it.
Re: Just curious
Do you actually have any close family members or friends who are doctors? Because you seem very uneducated about the simple fact that not all doctors are the same. The specialty a doctor practices and where they work (clinic vs. hospital) makes a BIG difference in their schedule. And yes, I know quite a few doctors who have a set schedule.
As for continuing their education…MANY other jobs require employees to keep up with current developments/certifications. Do you think lawyers stop studying the law after they get their law degree? Do you think teachers never have to keep themselves updated on new developments in education? What about ANYONE that works in IT or similar fields? Don’t they have to keep up with the latest developments in technology?
Although there are some specialties that require extensive training and the person doesn’t finish it all until their mid 30’s (plastic surgery for example)…in most specialties, it finishes earlier. In most specialties, they’re done with residency/fellowship by the time they’re 30/31. In specialties like ER, anesthesiology, oncology, neurology, dermatology, radiation oncology, cardiology, GYN oncology etc…it’s pretty common for them to make $250,000 + as soon as they’re done with fellowship. So yea…even IF they don’t start earning money until their 30’s…I can’t think of too many professions where the salary in general (let alone STARTING salary) can beat that.
My husband, FIL, BIL, SIL…along with half the family on my dad’s side are doctors. For you make a blank statement that all doctors intentionally keep their patients sick (ie. delay their recovery) in order to make profits is highly offensive. ![]()

not really... phyisian get more panicked than the ignorant parents.

The list of issues/requirements you put forth in your original post are also part and parcel of other professions and some parents must be aware of that. This has nothing to do with liking or not liking your thread. My response addressed your topic; it didn't attack or mock your ideas, your writing style, or you as a person. There's a difference between looking at something from all angles both good and bad...and only looking at something from a cynical eye.
Re: Just curious
I agree, they don't like to treat their own kids if there is some thing panic-y like severe allergic reaction or some thing.
They use their friends in such situation.
But over all to their kids , over time, they provide a good manual for their(kids) body.
