Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

I don't want to be clear and loud but anyways all I am saying why people have problem who wear scarfs? I wear scarf but I don't have problem with people who don't wear scarf. But what I see mostly is when people don't have any point left in debating why they are not wearing scarf or having beard they would just start blaming people like me that we are more evil.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

Its just pointless topic its everyone's personal decision how they see it. Let me ask you a question people who don't have beard or who don't wear scarves if they have so much knowledge of religion why don't they follow it? Because of their week Iman?

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

I'm just trying to understand why do people think scarf and beard means being religious or more religious than others?

As TLK said, he wouldn't pray behind a clean-shaved muslim even if he knows more Quranc verses etc.

Why can't muslims who don't have a beard or women who don't wear scarf be equal to those who have?

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

I wanted to say beard/scarf, hence used he/she ..

I know Islam does not ask women to have beard :D

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

lol

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

So now beard and scarf are connected to Iman? That's something new to me, seriously.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

if they are more knowledgeable and not practising their own knwledge, then does not it make them hypocrite  .. what good that religious knowledge is if you cant apply to follow sunnat

I said I would rather have the guy with the beard lead the prayers. I did not say I would not pray behind a clean shave guy. My choice is between a clean shave and bearded guy is not because I am judging someone’s eeman. My choice is to give respect to the sunnat of prophet :saw2:, and the guy who is obviously following that sunnat has a very great respect in my heart, always.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

What really? That's new to you. Hijab is farz upon women and it is directly connected to Iman (given that the women doing hijab is doing it for the right reasons). Beard on the other hand is sunnah.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

Does that mean that bearded guy is following all the other sunnahs too? And does that mean clean-shaved guys isn’t following any sunnat?

I just realized, you just called all the clean-shaved scholars hypocrites.

Okay, so I gather, all the scarfless and beardless muslims have weak iman and the clean-shaved scholars are hypocrites.

Nice.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

<3 beard hijab virginity debates

its the rock paper scissors of gs.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

Hijab (not a scarf) is for a woman's own protection and it has various forms in various societies. Although, hijab of mind and character is farz upon both men and women.

In recent years, for some reason, beard and scarf have become the only sign of muslim faith so I'm talking about it from that perspective. in modern Islam.

This thread has proved that beardless and scarfless muslims have the place of shudars in modern Islam.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

Yo are twisting my words.

  1. I used this phrase about the bearded guy " obviously following that sunnat". In a group of 5 starnger msulims, how would I know who is closer to sunnat and who is not but from what they appear.

  2. Abut the clean shaved scholars: you hit the nail right on the head sister. I dont give a damn to someone’s teaching, if he himself is not following the teaching of the teacher (Prophet :saw2:) himself. That does not mean that I am not going to learn from a clean shave guy, but I would not call them a scholar.

Would you go to a doctor who is coughing like crazy, or go to a marriage counselor who is 3 times divorced? Why, beacuse they are not following their own teaching. That is why I stay away from suited booted, clean shaved, hippie religious scholars.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

So you don’t consider these people scholars coz they don’t have a beard or a proper beard?

Btw, if you yourself hasn’t studied Islam and hadith and you don’t know what’s written there about beard, how can you label someone with the titles of scholar or not scholar?

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

Well, I do think people who wear religious symbols care more about showing off their religiousness. It's their sense of pride and there's nothing wrong with it. I know people who are really religious, even pray the Tahajjud salat every morning yet do not keep a beard or wear a scarf(for women). I think it's their comfort level too. It's not that they are uncomfortable in Hijab, they'd stick out like a sore thumb in a western crowd. Wouldn't you rather want to blend in than attract others' unnecessary attention?

From religious perspective, hijab is apparently obligatory so I do feel it's a bit hypocritical to claim to be uber religious but have no care for Sunnah

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

If they are muslims, then ....ermmm no. I dont even who these people are btw.

Why do I have to listen to them when I have 1000's and 1000's of religious scholars who are live representation of sunnat. I will listen to the above scholars if every other scholar die tomorrow. RIght now, I dont feel the need because I have plenty of scholars available who look and dress like Muslims.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

suddenly I grew more respect for you ..

and by more, I mean all of it .. :D

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

That's fanaticism. I'd listen to anyone who has something valuable to say, even you.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

A big number of good and educated muslims don't necessarily wear these symbols and it's sad that they are treated as outsiders within the muslim community, they are 3rd class muslims, not worth anything. They are not allowed to represent Islam in any way.

The idea of judging someone's religious capacity has come from Wahabism, a sort of Secularism, the very thing most of us hate, it tells us that only people who wear symbols are worth of following.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

It is not muslims who are knowledgeable and don't wear symbols are hypocrites, it's those who BELIEVE in symbols to be a measure of piety and religious capability but choose for themselves not to use the symbols because they have weak iman than others, they are the hypocrites.

Re: Just because you like wearing a religious symbol

That might be your understanding of it but my understanding is that along with the hijab you mentioned scarf is also farz.

I do agree though that scarf and beard alone do not dictate how religious or pious a person is. It is definetly a positive sign but we don't know anyone's intentions so we can't conclude a man with beard is more pious that a man without beard. BUT if we did know two men who are of equal knowledge and one had beard and one didn't I think its safe to say the man with beard is going beyond the man who doesn't have a beard to follow sunnah (and hence his iman is stronger which is giving him the strength to keep a beard even though it has a lot of negative connotations - same can be said about a women wearing scarf).
